Dr. Rivers received his Bachelors of Science with honors in chemistry from Princeton University and his Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University Medical College in New York, New York. He followed his academic training with an internship in General Medicine at Beekman Downtown Hospital – New York Infirmary, a residency in ophthalmology at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, and a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He also served as Chief Resident during his residency in ophthalmology at the New York Hospital.
Dr. Rivers holds licenses in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. and has affiliations at Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital, and the Friendship Surgery Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at both Howard University School of Medicine and Georgetown University Center for Sight, Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Rivers belongs to five professional societies and boards.
He has been a principal investigator twice in clinical research and once as a sub-principal investigator. Additionally, he has participated in three other research efforts. He has contributed to six abstracts, presentations, and published articles.
