I am a professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and graduate of New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia Psychoanalytic Institute. I am the author or co-author of eleven books and 250 articles and chapters - many of which deal with personality disorders, especially "borderline personality disorder." My main treatment approaches are psychoanalytically-oriented and supportive, but also include marital therapy, work with adolescents. I have given lectures and workshops extensively on personality disorders and also on forensic subjects - here in the US and in three dozen countries and on every continent. I had been the host of Discovery Channel's program called "Most Evil" where I interviewed persons - usually with severe personality disorders - around the country. But my practice is strictly with persons of good character who have psychological problems of various sorts, as I have listed below. I do, however, try to help people who have problems with family members in difficulties, persons going through difficult divorce or custody situations. I also have experience with addiction problems, especially in adolescents and young adult life. I see people in consultation who need only one or two visits, also people who need brief psychotherapy, and those requiring long-term therapy. I work weekend mornings as well, so as to accommodate persons with busy work-week schedules.

Out of the many therapists I have seen since childhood, not one of them has had both the acumen and good sense that Dr. Stone has. He is an excellent choice for anybody with hand- to- pen- down issues. His intuition and precise knowledge are both spot on.

Dr. Stone made me feel very comfortable. From the beginning I feel like I can trust him and can tell him anything. I get the sense he has heard just about everything so he isn't judgmental. That is my favorite part about him. He really doesn't judge like other therapists, and I feel like I can trust him. He is reliable, plus he's really funny and he helped me through a very difficult time. He got me back on my feet w/ a lot of patience and understanding.
