This doctor was unlike any doctors I've had in the past. Struggling with mood swings all my life. I haven't had the space to talk freely about my feelings with my family at home. And other doctors usually do all the talking and don't give me space to express myself. With Dr. Gunja I feel heard and listened to.

I specialize in the evaluation and treatment of anxiety, including panic symptoms, obsessive compulsive behavior, and social phobias that interfere with personal relationships and functioning at work. My patients are typically high-functioning, and struggling to meet the demands of challenging career and family obligations. I feel strongly about an integrated approach to mental and physical health, employing talk therapy and using medication when appropriate. I take care to personalize treatment, drawing from a variety of disciplines including Psychopharmacology, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness. I'm also sensitive to the stigma that still exists about mental health treatment among varied cultural and religious backgrounds, and I work to overcome barriers with a culturally-sensitive approach.
I am a licensed Psychiatrist board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I served as chief resident at Mt Sinai St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital and completed a fellowship in Public Psychiatry from Columbia University. My research interests include stress-related burnout and resilience, and the integration of mental and physical health. My service to the community is broad, including extensive experience conducting home visits as Lead Psychiatrist for Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Teams and caring for patients at the Blanton-Peale Institute and Counseling Center. I attended Brown University and St. George’s University School of Medicine.

I'm always telling people that I have a great doctor - he listens to me, he's warm and approachable, and helped me get off medication which had some negative side effects. Having a caring doctor who listens is a real plus.
