I am Dr. Raja Tooma, a Board-certified family medicine physician, with a special interest in Dermatology and adult medicine.
I am excited about moving to Auburn to start my practice as part of Weimar Medical Group.
I practiced for many years in Southern California, and was pleased to gain a large patient following. Medicine was always interesting, and my interactions with patients were always pleasant and friendly. But the real fulfillment in my profession began when I realized that the root of the vast majority of illnesses is actually emotional unrest, as well as the wrong lifestyle!
And so, as I developed a passion to take on both these issues, and to address the person as a whole, I have come to enjoy tremendous satisfaction in my profession And this has led to the true satisfaction of my patients, as well!

I had put off going to the doctor for a very long time. It has never been a good experience; until now. This doctor was a good listener, and was both professional and compassionate. Both of her assistants were so kind and down to earth and made me feel immediately comfortable and relaxed. I don't know "how" this is possible, but the Doc spent nearly an hour evaluating my symptoms, writing out a prescription, convincing me to do some tests (and blood work), figuring out referrals, etc. and I never felt like a number or that she was "processing" me. Ya know? An overall pleasant experience, in many ways!

She is a very personable, knowledgeable doctor. She spent over an hour with my mother and I (my mom was the patient). She has a very holistic approach and encourages life style changes vs. just prescribing drugs. My mother is keen to take on her suggestions and we both hope they help her! She listened to our concerns and addressed them whereas before I had other doctors sort of shrug them off.

I was unaware at the time of booking my appointment that this was an Adventist Physicians office. I was looking for a new physician after recently moving to the area. Dr. Tooma was very directive about introducing her Adventist theology, diet, and ideas in her medical intake. When I said I drank one glass of wine a day, she gave me a look and said, "why do you do that". She continued to impose her beliefs throughout the appointment, ending with a prayer that asked God to forgive me several times so that I would be ready for the coming of Christ. From my point of view, itt was a very unprofessional encounter. It might have been just the ticket for another Adventist, but not for me. I suggest that something in the write up about her the religious component of her practice needs to be noted. People need to know what to expect, in order to make the correct personal physician choices.

I am female, 64 years old, a smoker but basically pretty healthy and only admitted into hospital 3X to deliver my children.
As I realize and my body is telling me I'm getting OLD!
I hand-picked Dr. Tooma out of all the other Sutter doctors and so grateful I did...
My 1st appointment with Dr. Tooma lasted almost 2 hours, we covered everything, she listened to me and I learned so much about myself from her; as NOT going to the doctors over the years I desperately need some maintenance!
My thought was, I was feeling fine, so there was no-need to see a doctor?
Well, I couldn't have been more WRONG! I just hope I didn't wait too long to find Dr. Tooma.
My next appointment is tomorrow and I can't wait as all my lab work and imaging will be completed for Dr. Tooma to evaluate and we can discuss

Doctor had lots of religious material in exam room, offered to pray for me. Trying to instill her religious beliefs on me while being examined is not professional. She is vegetarian & that's fine, but saying to me "If you like animals so much why do you eat them" was I felt inappropriate. She took a small growth off my scalp & I was a bloody mess when I left. I had to cancel my afternoon plans because I had so much blood in my hair

I have to say this was the worst experience with any medical professional I have ever had. I left the office in tears. This appointment effected me for weeks after. Doctor Tooma was highly unprofessional. Going to the OBGYN is uncomfortable enough- and when asking me about my sexual history (this was an annual GYN exam) she proceeded to shake her head when I told her I am sexually active and 21 years old. She continued to make comments about being abstinent and asked how will my boyfriend respect me if I sleep with him before marriage- how he will see me differently if I sleep with him. This outraged me. Dr. Tooma put her personal beliefs onto me with no consideration for my feelings or beliefs- no consideration of why I was even at the appointment. I couldn't even defend myself because I was so taken aback. As a medical professional you should be unbiased and empathetic. Your patients should feel comfortable enough with you to share their concerns and be honest. I came to Dr. Tooma because I was raped. I needed help. I had come to her needing someone to talk to and I was shut down, told I was not worthy of respect if I have sex before marriage. Dr. Tooma also took it upon herself to write me a list of how to change my diet and lifestyle to be healthier which included "not eating meat, no snacks in between meals, cutting out dairy, drinking 64 fl oz of water a day, etc." ending the note with "God bless." This was unwarranted and extreme. I left the office feeling judged, sick to my stomach and ultimately feeling worthless and wrong. I never even got to tell her why I was there. Next time, I will go to planned parenthood. At least they don't judge. I wouldn't even call Raja Tooma a Doctor.

Dr. Tooma gave sound recommendations on many areas where I can improve my health. She uses examples where similar treatment or diet helped others (including herself).
She is very personable and has a good sense of humor in addition to her vast medical knowledge

My visit with Dr. Tooma was very "eye opening". She made me look at things in a totally new perspective. I have not been to see a doctor in a couple of years, now I am 63 years old and lately feeling it...for the most part and my age, I think I'm in pretty good health, never surgery or hospitalization, only to have my 3 children. (and now, 8 grandchildren!) At this time in my life I need to focus more on doing things for myself, my health and I truly think Dr. Tooma can help me with this. Her strategy and outlook are refreshing and I look forward to my next visit.

It was refreshing to have a Doctor actually take the time to explain how things work in your body in order to help understand the importance of why changing habits will actually work. It is nice to know why. Adds more motivation to start living right.

I came to Dr. Tooma with an infection on my face. She provided both an antibiotic as well as holistic, natural options to bring down the infection. I did not have to take the antibiotics with just the holistic treatment she gave me! I was so happy!!! I went from having this hideous swelling on my cheek, to completely normal within 2 days. She's very thorough, and really cares!

If a patient seeks health and is willing to be inspired to improve their diet, Dr. Tooma is unsurpassed. She is deeply knowledgeable about what the human body needs in order to recover from illness and in order to maintain health. A lot of it we may know, but Dr. Tooma's gracious support will help us put our knowledge into practice.
Raja means "Hope," and that is what she gives. If you wish to meet a doctor who treats you like an individual and who respects your challenges and wishes to help, she is your doctor of choice.

Dr. Tooma was attentive, thorough, an excellent listener and eager to begin a relationship with a new patient. She gave me a few suggestions to use while we await the insurance clearance coverage of changing to this new Dr. This was my first visit.
The office staff was especially helpful with all the insurance changing procedures necessary. Good staff!!
I especially appreciated it when Dr. Tooma ended our visit with prayer. I have been looking for a Christian woman Dr. with whom to continue medical treatment. I'm glad I found her.
