John Collen is proud to be a member of Circle Medical, a digital-first, patient-focused experience that makes quality care more accessible than ever. He earned his Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from Samuel Merritt University, which has equipped him with the skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive care.
My focus in medicine is to promote optimal health and well-being. This is achieved through good practice and caring, listening, and addressing each patient's concerns.
I believe that a well-rounded approach including nutrition, fitness, and kindness is fundamental to good health. This philosophy is also incorporated into my practice, addressing both physical and behavioral health needs.
In my spare time, I enjoy many outdoor activities and appreciate seasonal treasures—from viewing fireflies in early summer to experiencing the fall color change in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

First visit, he said he would not help me with my initial concern that I wrote in the notes prior to booking. Then I am waiting for 2nd visit and he never gets on and the app says it’s a fault on my end. There are no faults on my end and now no further appointments are available.

At first I was told my insurance was accepted, then I was asked for credit card info. After that I got a message saying my insurance was not accepted and I was charged $100 for Dr to tell me to go urgent care. I don’t understand the purpose of this service.

Most impersonal, cold, judgemental visit I've ever had. He really had a way of making me feel like a stupid layman, did not explain his thought process but indicated that he had to think. I am a human with health problems and pain and other professionals I work with regularly to maintain my health. I love them. To him I was a subhuman metric. 0/10. I can't help but imagine it's because I'm visibly queer and alternative.
I'm just a kid, and I'm figuring all of this out. People like this make me want to avoid healthcare and tell lies. That's the opposite of the way things should go. I would suggest anyone looking at this provider consider seeing literally anyone else. Preferably, a woman, queer, or POC, as they have experienced dehumanization and ignorance themselves.
See doctors. Not assistants, not nurses, see doctors. People who cared enough to dedicate their life.
