Dr. Sanders graduated with honors from the University of Virginia with a degree in biochemistry before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from Yale University School of Medicine. His post-graduate education started with an internship at Yale-New Haven Hospital followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was selected as a Co-Chief Resident. Dr. Sanders then completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School. During his fellowship in Boston, he was also selected as the Chief Fellow and was a Research Associate. Dr. Sanders is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is licensed throughout the DC area. He is affiliated with the Georgetown University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, Children’s National Medical Center, and Howard University School of Medicine. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Howard University School of Medicine as well as a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Attending Surgeon at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Sanders is chief of the Retina Service at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Sanders is well published and has lectured nationally and abroad with over 50 papers, publications and presentations to his credit. He has been investigator/sub-investigator in many investigative studies of new retinal treatments, including being a principal investigator for the well-known Lucentis treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Sanders is an active member and has served in leadership roles in many local and national professional societies and organizations.
