Dr. Rhonda L. Nelson graduated cum laude from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama and received her podiatry doctorate from the prestigious California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, Ca. Dr. Nelson has received extensive training at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, the Kaiser Permanente Health Center, in West Los Angeles and The Pacific Hospital of Long Beach, California.
A native Californian, Dr. Nelson now considers Maryland her home. Dr. Nelson has been practicing podiatric medicine in the Prince Georges County area since August 2000, and opened The Podiatry Care Center in January 2004.
Dr. Nelson is a specialist in the medical diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle. As a licensed physician and surgeon, with over 14 years of podiatric medical and surgical training, Dr. Nelson provides complete medical care for all of your foot and ankle concerns.
Throughout her career, Dr. Nelson has played a pivotal role in the development and formulation of various podiatric research and medical studies. She was an active participant in the following landmark research studies:
“Comparison of Kirschner Wire and Absorbable Pins in Digital Arthrodesis Procedures”, 1998;
“Effectiveness of Mycocide Antifungal Medication for the Treatment of Onychomycosis”, 1997;
“Comparison of Topical Medications for the Treatment of Tinea Pedis”, 1993.
In addition, Dr. Nelson volunteers her spare time in many capacities. Involvement in her local SPCA chapter allows her to express her love for animals and participate in several community activities. She is also very active in the Prince Georges County political community and participates in numerous career days and county health fairs throughout the area.

When I initially went to this doctor to follow up on my ER visit, I was surprised at how brief the visit was. She was very kind and sympathetic but otherwise seemed uninterested in actually examining my injury. She didn't examine me until I asked if she wanted to see my foot/ankle. I brought my own walking boot, which she said was fine. She helped me to figure it out and put it on, but then really didn't give me any guidance other than that. When I returned for the follow up three weeks later, she didn't review the new xrays with me. I mentioned that I had ankle pain and she asked me if I'd been on my feet and then seemed appalled that I'd taken the idea of a walking boot literally. I had to ask about how to take care of a sprain in order to get further guidance. I had to ask for a note for work to reduce my time on my feet. The whole visit (including wait time) was 20 minutes. I left kind of mad at myself for not advocating for myself better.

Dr. Nelson looked at my ankle and immediately informed me that I had sprained my ankle. She discussed some options with me in detail. She concluded that wearing the walker boot would be the best option. She showed me how to put on the boot and I could not believe the relief this boot provided to my ankle. Dr. Nelson, you are the best.
