Dr. Vodvarka was born and raised in Chicago. He was educated at Western Illinois University and the Illinois College of Optometry, receiving both his Bachelor's degree and Doctor of Optometry. He is very active in the Optometric field and is a member of the Texas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry. He is a past president of the Texas Optometric Association and the recipient of the Optometrist of the Year and Young Optometrist of the Year in Texas.
His numerous activities in the community include not only his optometric activities but also past memberships on the Advisory Board of Trinity Christian Academy, Dallas Services for Visually Impaired Children, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dallas. Dr. Vodvarka has also appeared on "Good Morning Austin" for a segment on age-related vision problems.
