Dr. Rya Kaplan is a board-certified gastroenterologist who provides compassionate and comprehensive high quality GI care for her patients. She takes the time to explain GI diseases, treatments and procedures in a way that is easy for her patients to understand, always with the goal of making her patients feel as comfortable as possible. Her East Cooper GI office and endoscopy locations are both conveniently located in Mt. Pleasant.
Dr. Rya Kaplan graduated high school on Hilton Head Island SC, and then attended Duke University for her pre-medical studies, where she graduated Cum Laude. She completed all of her medical training including Medical School, Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship at MUSC in Charleston SC. She was a member of a GI private practice group in Naples, FL for four years before returning to her home state of SC eight years ago to practice GI in North Charleston. She is now excited to start a new chapter of her GI career in the East Cooper area.
Dr. Rya Kaplan performs all routine GI procedures including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, small bowel endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, esophageal dilation, esophageal variceal banding, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and feeding tube placement. She also has advanced training in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
In her free time, Dr. Rya Kaplan enjoys spending time with her husband, family, friends & rescue dog. She considers herself a bit of a foodie and she can often be found at one of the Charleston area’s amazing restaurants. She also enjoys water activities including boating and the beach.
