Have been seeing Dr. Dunkell for about 7 years now and he has always been excellent! Great listener and really knows what you need. Also, he is a sleep specialist so thats super helpful.
After my first visit I was very impressed with Dr Dunkell. Talking to him was easy, it felt like talking to a close friend or a family member. He took his time to take notes and he listened very carefully. It blew my mind how much he was able to tell me about myself after only hearing very few things. It's the very first doctor who took me so seriously. I think I'm in the right hands.

I am getting well since I have seen this magician doctor. He reaches right into your soul & heals you and is VERY KIND!
He seems compassionate, knowledgeable and experienced. He can relate his own life experiences to those of the patient.
Very knowledgeable, however his reduced hearing sometimes makes it difficult to provide information and ask questions.
Dr. Dunkell is a fine psychiatrist who really knows how to listen and get people well. He is very loving and wise.
This Dr. Dunkell is a MASTER PSYCHIATRIST. He may be 98 but he is wise in spades & knows just how to help you.
A sensitive & highly effective doctor who truly listens to his patients, you are honored if he graces your life.
He was awesome, I made a follow-up appointment. The other reviewers are correct, I pray he doesn't retire soon.
It was my first visit but I will be returning. He seems very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable.
He is the most kind, compassionate, and professional doctor if have seen in 20+ years in New York.

Amazing Doctor! I wish other doctors were as knowledgeable and kind.
He is a very nice man. Was able to talk with him very easily.
Dr. Dunkell and his staff are kind and caring professionals.
I would liked to have been able to spend more time with him.
Very hard to communicate with Dr. due to his hearing
Dr. Dunkell is a very great man who has accomplished notable achievements in his long career. He is now in his 90s. I saw him several times for psychopharmacology. He remains acute in his knowledge of psychiatry and the related psychoactive medications. However, my judgment was that he is physically weak, on the edge of incapacitation, and also in the early stage of dementia called "Mild Cognitive Impairment". While always delightful with me, he does tend to wander off topic. I hate to suggest to anyone that it is time to retire, but the mid 90s is time to retire. I wish him the very best, He should be honored and remain intellectually active at the least because of his great contribution to the cure of Tay Sachs.
Great
This doctor couldn’t hear anything I said. The majority of this session was me repeating myself. The only things he asked me were the basic demographic questions on the form you have to fill out. He then told me I’m out of time but he needs more information. He asked me if my insurance was good and then said we should do another session next week. Huge waste of money and time.
I came to this office with the hope I could finally begin to treat the depression and anxiety I have struggled with for most of my adult life. That did not happen. This man is 98 years old. I know this because he made me guess his age. I could not speak a full sentence without him stopping me to turn up his hearing aids. The first question he asked me was whether or not I was gay because I checked "partnered" on my sign-in form (I've had a girlfriend for 4 years. Should I have checked 'single'?). He then ran through a checklist of the most boilerplate questions one could imagine, all the while taking 20-30 seconds to slowly write down every single answer I gave him (if he heard me correctly). I had to shout everything I said, and I have no doubt everyone in the waiting room outside heard me (attempting) to say deeply personal things. He then had me leave after 40 minutes, because my appointment started twenty minutes late and he either forgot this fact or simply was not aware of it. I felt more alone and hopeless leaving than I did entering. I don't think Dr. Dunkell is a bad person at all and I wish him no ill will. Perhaps he is a good fit for many other people, but I left this appointment feeling intensely worthless.

office in total chaos
Dr Dunkell, is very unique man, extremely bright and insightful. After only one meeting I could see he was the right person for me. Israel
Excellent
Verified patient
I require medication management and it turns out Dr. Dunkell just practices psychotherapy. I must say I was treated well by his staff. Dr. Dunkell seemed very nice and if I needed psychotherapy, he might be a good doctor. He told me to find an internist who also practices psychiatry which was good advice.
Best Psychiatrist
Simply the finest shrink in the business.
Simply THE BEST shrink in the world. Dr. Dunkell is a breakthrough psychiatrist who helped me open up & grow in under a year. I love him.
This doctor is a class act and very knowledgeable about all meds. He has been helping me to make correct life choices that have improved my well-being & happiness. I recommend him highly to people of all ages.
This fine psychiatrist asks all thee right questions and GETS YOU WELL mentally, spiritually and physically. He knows how to listen ans is VERY WISE. I cannot say how much Dr. Dunkell has helped me in my life. I only wish I had met him 20 years ago. LOVE HIM!
Dr Dunkell is a very nice man with a stellar professional history. My primary objection is that he is hard of hearing and it requires speaking at an uncomfortablely loud to be understood. That said, I am glad I met such an interesting Doctor but had I needed more that medication, I would have had to go elsewhere.
Hard of Hearing but Incredibly sweet
Great Doctor overall. Has a ton of experience !
This dr. is a lovely man of 97 years of age. He is somewhat hard of hearing and after a one minutes exchange of pleasantries, he proceeded to tell me he could not take me as a patient because of his poor hearing and mine. This is clearly not a legitimate functioning psychiatrist. He may once have been a great doctor but retirement is not a 4 letter word. I feel terrible writing this about such a sweet senior but be warned. unless you feel like meeting with him to shoot the breeze and provide company and conversation, look elsewhere.
Amazing Doctor, he's really wise.
Dr. Dunkell is a MASTER Psychiatrist who has helped me to better my life through his expertise and kindness. He is a treasure.
The Dr is a nice gentlmen. Unfortunately, the Dr.'s hearing aids were frequently not functioning properly which meant I had to repeat myself frequently. This was frustrating.
Great doctor, very helpful and insightful.
He was amazingly insightful and very helpful!
Brilliant and compassionate shrink !!!
He had to cancel due to flu.
