Pros: friendly office staff, clean office, comprehensive service, cookies after blood test
Cons: unprofessional appointment reminder texts that start with “hey what’s up,” office is difficult to find and no one answers the office phone, Dr is quick to dismiss concerns based on outdated tests, quick to jump to extreme conclusions based on minor symptoms, Dr performs blood draw and left huge bruise, test results are sent via unencrypted text morning of scheduled follow up call for “self review” and told a follow up call isn’t necessary unless wanted

I want to start off by saying she was very nice. But she seemed slightly unorganized and unstructured. Furthermore her son kind of kept walking into the room during the appointment. I also asked her, what would she be testing me for with my blood work multiple times. She couldn’t give me a clear answer. I told her about some concerns I had but I’m still unclear as to where i am with it because I do not know what she tested me for. I believe she will send results soon. The last major concern I have is the cultural difference with medicine. I told her about a traumatic experience and the depression that followed. Her response was “Well were you still going to work? If so you were not depressed.” She goes on to ask me if I was medicated for depression and the tone was very dismissive. I want to make the point that she and her son are very sweet and friendly, I just think the way they conducted the appointment didn’t feel very informative on the medical end. But they are nice people.

The doctor was so kind and warm — made me feel seen and heard the entire visit. The office was cozy, the staff was sweet (shoutout to the cookies), and I didn’t feel rushed at all. I came in nervous, but I left feeling reassured. Highly recommend if you’re looking for care with heart.

The office was very clean.. if your appointment is 11:30 your seen at 11:30.. so your not just sitting waiting.. the doctor spaces her appointment apart so that she is not rushing your appointment
She ask everything to get to know as much about you.. I live that you can bring the whole family to see her.. she is my new pcp.. plus she has weekend appointment which was what I needed.

The consultation was thorough, and she provided invaluable advice and guidance. I will definitely be seeing her again! A big thank you as well to her assistant and son, who helped in every way—from seamlessly scheduling my appointment to ensuring my medications were sent to the pharmacy. My visit to Dr. Begum wasn't pleasant at all. Her son who is her admin consistently interrupted my appointment and she kept the door open where he and the waiting entire waiting room can hear all of my medical history. He never said "Excuse me" when interrupting my annual check up. There was no soap in the bathroom and I had to provide a urine sample, which is extremely unacceptable especially for a doctor's office. When I came for my blood results not only did she not remember me from 2 weeks ago but she then stated that my thyroid looked swollen, but how could she determine that if she doesn't remember me from my prior appointment. While going over my blood results she wasn't able to correctly inform me about what my concerns were due to the language barrier. All in all I would not recommend Dr. Begum it seems as though she wants to give out a lot of prescriptions.

Dr Begum was amazing! She took the time to really get to know my background and issues. She took the time and didn't rush me which is very rare to see in a doctor. I got an appointment right away with her and when I went I got seen right away. My appt was confirmed with a phone call and the doctor was always on hand if I had questions. I highly recommend Dr. Begum to anyone interested in a family doctor!

Dr. Begum is amazing and unlike any doctor I’ve seen before. I went to her super sick and she took a very holistic approach to how I was feeling. She did not only care about my symptoms but also asked questions about my lifestyle and family history to try to get a picture of my overall health. You will not fill out long intake forms and questionnaires like you do at other doctor’s offices because she will ask you all these questions herself. I did not feel rushed at all during my appointment - I spent a solid 30-45 minutes with her. To top it off, she sent me follow up texts to check in to see how I’m feeling. Dr. Begum truly cares about her patients and I’m so glad I found her!

Since I moved to NYC, 15 years ago, I have struggled to find a good primary care doctor. I believe I have find everything I was looking for with Shahanaz Begum. Mrs Begum asked me lot of questions, she did a very thorough examination and left nothing to chance, and listened very attentively to my answers and answered all my questions. I never felt rushed, or that she had other patients to care for. She followed up the next day with a call, to make sure I was doing alright with the meds she prescribed. I have serious health issue, but I know that I'm in good hands now. I can't tell you what a relief that is.
