Dr. Sonya Dhar specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Fellowship-trained at the prestigious Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, she has advanced training in multiple techniques used to treat glaucoma including laser trabeculoplasty, drainage implants, trabeculectomy and ExPress Mini Shunts. Dr. Dhar also has extensive experience in complicated cataract surgery and anterior segment reconstruction. She has a particular interest in the placement of iris and scleral sutured lenses and iris repairs for the treatment of ocular trauma or pre-existing conditions. Dr. Dhar regularly teaches doctors at several hospitals in New York City, as well as internationally. She is especially interested in international health, traveling to a number of service clinics in Haiti, Nepal, and Africa. Dr. Dhar focuses on each patient as an individual, paying special attention to patient education and compliance, and their crucial role in halting progression of eye disease. I was very anxious before my appointment. Fortunately, Dr Dhar is very patient, taking her time to answer all my questions. She definitely knows her stuff. The office is very beautiful and conveniently located near many subways. I wouldn't go to any other Glaucoma specialist in NYC.

Most unprofessional doctor I have ever experienced with the sensitivity of 2 by 4. I made the mistake of making an appointment for my mother with this lady and was horrified at her response when she learned my mother was not referred to her by another doctor and had problems articulating her eye stroke. I asked to speak to her and she puts me on speaker phone to yell at me and tell my mother who was looking for hope that her glaucoma was so sever and should never have practically come to her office and she was looking for a miracle. I told her that it was unnecessary to talk to her this way while she was present. She was already very depressed and was looking for some hope instead she got this horrible experience. Highly urge you to go else where cause don’t thinking anyone’s mother should be treated this way she is 69 yrs old for god sake.sincerely her son.

Dr. Dhar was fantastic. I was referred to her by another ophthalmologist. Everyone in the office was nice and they were able to see me fairly quickly. Dr. Dhar was professional, courteous, and was able to explain things to me in a way that was easy to understand. She put me at ease.

Dr. Dhar is thorough in her exam and the office was warm and welcoming. There were a number of patients in whilst I was there but she managed us all efficiently which was much appreciated. This was the first time I had my eyes dilated and she made me feel comfortable and eased my fears. Definitely recommend Dr. Dhar!

Was on the phone for the first 10 minutes we were in the exam room on a personal call. Didn't discuss with me my concerns. Very quickly and abruptly did the eye drops and exam without much patience. Altogether unsatisfactory given the price.

I like the time of appointment which is after work hours
My only annoyance is that despite filling out the ZocDoc paperwork, I still had to fill out paperwork. Also the front desk person pre-filled some of the paperwork with incorrect information. He asked me if I was sure it was incorrect and it included a date of birth that preceded mine by 20 years.
Sonya explained everything clearly without being condescending.
The doctor saw me right away when I arrived. She listened intently to my issue, gave me great advice and recommendations, and made sure I understood all my options. She wasn't great about giving me a heads up about what drops/tools she was going to use on my eyes at first, but when I asked for clarification beforehand she accommodated me very quickly. All in all, great experience!
