Stephen Slade attended Tulane University and the University of Texas at Austin graduating summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended the University of Texas Medical School with a final, elective year spent at Guy’s Hospital, London, He completed a residency at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans and fellowships in corneal surgery at Baylor University at the Texas Medical Center and Project ORBIS, NY, NY. Dr. Slade performed the first LASIK in the US. He was also the first US surgeon to implant the Crystalens, presbyopia implants and to perform Laser Cataract Surgery. He has the nation’s longest experience in Femtosecond Laser LASIK as well. Dr. Slade is considered a “surgeon’s surgeon”; over 450 of his fellow eye surgeons have chosen him for their own eye surgery. He has written 9 textbooks and presented 18 named lectures along with numerous published papers, presentations and book chapters. The American Academy of Ophthalmology selected Dr. Slade for the 2007 Barraquer Award and Lecture, the top award in Refractive Surgery. Dr. Slade was also selected, by his peers, as a “Texas Super Doctor”, Beckers “Top US Doctors” and “Best Doctors in America”. Dr. Slade has been featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS and the Emmy Award winning PBS documentary “20/10 by 2010?” narrated by Walter Chronkite. He currently is founder of Slade and Baker Vision in Houston, Texas as well as the Chairman of ACOS, the American/ European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery.
