About Dr. Mike Mann
Dr. Mike Mann founded Mann Eye as a solo practitioner in October of 1977. Under his vision and guidance, Mann Eye Institute has grown to 18 locations in Houston and Austin and is nationally recognized as one of the premier eye care practices in the country.
Beyond leading Mann Eye Institute for more than four decades, Dr. Mann has a passion for investing in the communities Mann Eye Institute serves as evidenced by his many philanthropic endeavors.
EDUCATION
Dr. Mann completed his undergraduate work at Centenary College and earned his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Baylor College of Medicine and his Ophthalmology Residency was at Tulane University. Dr. Mann proudly served his country from 1970-1973 as a Flight Surgeon with the rank of Major in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and served in the USAF Reserves until 1977 when he founded Mann Eye Institute.
OPHTHALMOLOGY
Dr. Mann is board-certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Over the years, he has participated in many FDA clinical studies, lectured on results, and developed new techniques and products to improve the surgical outcomes of his patients.
Dr. Mann pioneered laser vision correction (LASIK) surgery with Ralph Berkeley, MD, in the early 1990s. Today LASIK is the most common vision correction procedure performed worldwide. Dr. Mann has personally performed over 40,000 LASIK cases and 50,000 Cataract cases. His philosophy of patient care is reflected throughout the entire practice.
Mann Eye Institute was one of the first practices in Texas to offer the advanced laser technologies of WaveLight Excimer Laser for LASIK and the first in the US to use Catalys Femtosecond Laser for cataract surgery.

I booked an appointment with Dr. Mann, but I was seen by another provider. Dr. Mann stopped by briefly to try to talk me into Lasik surgery even as he admitted little to no correction was necessary. His colleague assured me later that I did not need glasses.

Dr Mann honesty integrity and professionalism is what this man is made of . I had lasik surgery in 2012 and
the consultation revealed that I was a candidate for the surgery . During the pre surgery consultation the day
of my procedure he recommended only doing one eye and it would give me a refund on the other eye . I
couldnt believe he was so honest . Fall of 2023 I went in for my first check up since the procedure and my
vision is as sharp as it was when he performed the surgery in 2012. Dr Mann thank you and it was great to
see you .

and fruits . I can see their unique color and texture thanks to Dr.Paul Mann the son . Now he treats my retina
