On a first visit Dr. Johnstone listened to my tale of woe carefully; asked me questions, appearing to be truly interested; he showed me my MRI images, and explained the condition and treatment options clearly.
Later the x-ray technician told me, "I see all of Dr. Johnstone's patients. You are lucky to have him as your surgeon, he is a superb surgeon."
I'm optimistic.

Stephen Johnstone, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He specializes in hip and knee joint replacement. He received his medical degree from the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University and went on to complete his orthopedic residency at the top ranked University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction at the highly regarded Hip and Knee Center of the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center where he studied advanced orthopedic surgical techniques.
In addition to his clinical focus on hip and knee replacement, Dr. Johnstone treats a range of orthopedic conditions including adult and pediatric fractures and meniscal tears. He provides compassionate and customized care to patients and believes that patient education plays a key role in achieving optimal clinical results. When patients understand their orthopedic conditions, they can best partner with him in their treatment plans. In addition, he aims to see patients as a whole, understanding that their pain is only one part of who they are as people. He values the relationships he forms with his patients and the transformative role he plays in their lives. Dr. Johnstone finds it most rewarding to improve a patient’s well-being through his ability to replace pain and limitation with function, mobility, and independence.
In order to properly evaluate your medical condition, all NEW PATIENTS MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS TO THEIR FIRST APPOINTMENT:
• A copy of relevant imaging (MRI, CT Scan) on a CD in addition to the radiology films.

This was our first time meeting and it was via "tele-health" or rather, video chat. For a discipline (orthopedics) that primarily needs to be in-person to be effective, Dr. Johnstone made the best of our situation. He was informative but not condescending. He listened and laid out realistic expectations for our next steps together. His team, made sure I was aware of how to connect and what I would need to prepare before the appointment.

The doctor himself and the staff in the office were wonderful. The overall "Mount Sinai Doctors" organization, especially the call center, is impossible. If it wasn't so convenient to my home, and convenient to have all my doctors in one place, I would be looking elsewhere. The call center model of practice management does not work, and leaves patients on interminable hold. You can never "just call your doctor's office." I'm sure some corporate efficiency expert thinks this is great. This patient, however, does not.

Dr. Johnstone was running slightly behind schedule but it was clear once we were taken in that it was because he does not rush with his patients or answering any questions we may have for him. He examined my grandmother and referred her right away to get an xray done and asked that we go right back to him afterwards in order for him to finish evaluating her. Any other doctor would have scheduled another appointment to look over the results. We really appreciated him doing it all in one visit.

Dr. Johnstone seemed a thoughtful, capable doctor who did not recommend anything unnecessary. The office was newly renovated, very modern and with impressive views. The signage is not yet great for the doc's office but the building is under construction. Short wait of maybe 10 minutes.

Dr. Johnstone was very thorough with me. He spent over 30 minutes with me, compared to other OS that spent a mere 10 minutes or so. He was very real and genuine and did not "sugar coat" anything. He allowed me to speak on how I felt and what the best course of treatment would be. I didn't feel forced or pressured in any manner. I will certainly recommend.

I showed up about 40 minutes early as it was my first visit and I anticipated the extra paperwork. After about 5 minutes I was taken to the room I would eventalually be seen in to do my vitals and complete the paper work. That left me with 20 minutes to kill which was my own doing, but I still didn't see the doc until about 15-20 minutes past my scheduled time. The actual visit was great. Very nice guy and legitimately has a holistic and down to earth approach to health care. Was very thorough in his explanation of his diagnosis and why he believed what he believed. It's nice being able to ask questions without feeling like you've offended the doctor or challenged their expertise.

He was worth the waiting time, thorough and excellent bed side manners. One of those rare physicians that still put patients first and really care. The wait was long but he is excellent. He was probably giving quality time to each person he saw, the same he did with me hence I had to wait which I would do again for such a nice physician. Rare find these days. Thank you Zoc Doc for posting the best doctors. 99% of what I have scheduled thru Zoc Doc always turns out to be great.
