****NOTE: Shortly after scheduling your appointment, you will receive a call about your medical history. If you do not have an Orthopedic Referral order or prior diagnostics (e.g., X-Rays, CT, MRI reports), you will see Dr. Sharkey's Licensed Staff Physician for an initial evaluation. Referral orders and insurance pre-authorizations for tests and procedures will be completed during your first visit. All patients must contact the office promptly.****
If needed, you will be scheduled to see Dr. Sharkey directly. Please note Dr. Sharkey does not treat acute fractures.
Dr. John J. Sharkey is a Board-Certified Orthopedist with over 25 years of experience diagnosing and treating orthopedic conditions affecting muscles, bones, joints, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, tumors, and infections. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Sharkey joined Medical Arts Centers to serve patients at four locations in New York City.
Your visit at Medical Arts Clinics will consist of two visits:
- Initial Evaluation is usually conducted by Dr. Sharkey’s Licensed Staff Physician. Procedures and diagnostic tests such as X-Ray, MRI, CT, etc., will be performed as needed to gather data for a treatment plan. Dr. Sharkey’s office technology allows most diagnostics on-site during the first visit. If needed, the doctor will perform a “STAT” / “Wet” (immediate) reading.
- Orthopedic Consultation is performed by Dr. Sharkey, who will evaluate all diagnostics to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
Once diagnosed, Dr. Sharkey offers evidence-based pain management care that may include physical therapy, medication, or invasive treatments.
