About Dr. Benjamin Bedford
Benjamin B. Bedford MD is a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in the treatment of all sports-related injuries as well as arthroscopic and open treatment of knee, ankle, shoulder and elbow injuries. He also performs joint replacement for arthritis of the hip, knee and shoulder. Dr Bedford has presented research and instructional lectures at numerous orthopedic conferences. Additionally, he has authored research articles in topics related to orthopedics and sports medicine. He currently performs clinical research at the Nicholas Institute for Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma and maintains a special interest in the treatment of throwing athletes, including ligament injuries and cartilage defects. A native of Bedford, New York, Dr Bedford attended Fox Lane High School. He graduated cum laude from Middlebury College in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in biology and was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team. He continued his education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, graduating in 2004. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where he was chief resident from 2008- 2009. Shortly afterwards, Dr. Bedford completed a sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama under the direction of James R. Andrews MD. There he received specialty training in advanced techniques in arthroscopic surgery. During this time he also participated in the care of athletes from the Alabama Ballet, Auburn University, Birmingham Barons (AA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), Tuskegee University, University of Alabama and the Washington Redskins.

I was seen by Dr. Bedford and his assistant Meredith who were both great. Great bedside manner, well informed and explained everything clearly, didn't make me feel rushed. Answered all my questions and laid out plans of treatments/options if the current treatment wasn't working. Worlds different from my previous Dr. who basically told me there was very little they could do for my knee, that it was in terrible condition and but I was too young to have a knee replacement so there were only two treatments they could try and if they didn't work then I would just have to live with the pain until I could get a replacement. Only con was there was a slight smell in the waiting room. I think the chairs need to be cleaned or at least the one closest to the desk on the right side of the office
Dr. Bedford was incredibly professional, thorough and helpful. He talked me through all of the potential causes of my pain and what we could do to help address the issues. I felt taken care of and well informed about my options leaving my visit. Not to mention, intake was seamless and the staff were kind and attentive. Would definitely recommend Dr. Bedford for your orthopedic needs.
Just truly amazing I am now 4 week post on meniscus surgery and feeling better than ever. I came for my month check up and he answered all my concerns and just made it a pleasurable experience totally recommend

I had surgery a week and a half ago I feel off a bike 2 months ago. Doctor Bedford was attentive and looked and all the possible sides of things. He caught what the MRI and the X-RAY didn’t catch. I am healing amazing his care and the way that he acts towards the patients are amazing, amazing bed side manner. He answered all my questions and concerns. Really an amazing person !!!!!

I visited the office following a knee injury; I was taken in almost immediately for an xray, and then waited only another minute until I was taken into the exam room. The wait for the doctor was brief. He was very professional and pleasant, I did not feel rushed at all. I had an MRI on a Friday and received a call from the PA on Monday morning with the results.
His bedside manner is amazing. He listens to your concerns and tries every way to help you. I came to Doctor Bedford with hand and knee injury and he helped me a lot in diagnosing it. Highly recommend. He takes what he does seriously and wants the healing process to be as smooth as possible.

Thoroughly visited by the doctor's assistant first, and the doctor afterward. They both asked questions directly to the kid (not only to us parents), and waited patiently for her answers, making her feel comfortable. Clear diagnosis and instructions on care.
Very professional and we had a comprehensive dialogue about the issue. And, he reviewed my prior doctor's MRI and xrays, etc. Gave me some non-surgical interventions, in addition to a referral to a surgeon if the condition worsened. Was very happy with his approach and his recommendations. However, the wait time was pretty major. Had a 10am appointment. Arrived on time. Sat in waiting room. Was called into an exam room at 10:45am. Sat there waiting. Saw a physicians assistant at 11:00am. Finally saw the doctor at about 11:15am.
This was my first time meeting with Dr. Bedford, and I highly recommend him. He was direct, professional, courteous, and had a distinctly positive energy about him. In less than five minutes, he provided me with a diagnosis for me issue, as well as an action plan, and then I was on my way. No complaints.
If I could give six stars I would. The most professional, courteous and helpful atmosphere (and I’ve been to many). Knowledgeable and full of genuine bedside manner. Addressed all questions, prescribed a reasonable plan of next steps to start and confidence behind a smooth recovery. I highly recommend.

Dr. Bedford and his team were fantastic! They were able to schedule and coordinate an appointment and MRI for me while I was in New York for Thanksgiving. After thorough exams by Dr. Bedford and his PA, I met with Dr. Bedford's entire team. Dr. Bedford explained his preliminary diagnosis and suggested that I get an MRI to determine the extent of my injury. Dr. Bedford also called me with the results of my MRI and the recommended treatment very quickly. Dr. Bedford was very pleasant, knowledgable, and reassuring throughout every one of our interactions. I felt comfortable asking him questions, and he did a great job explaining things to me without overwhelming me with information. Additionally, Dr. Bedford and NY Orthopedics were very responsive and prompt throughout this entire process. I didn't have to wait at all to be seen even though the office seemed fairly busy on the day of my appointment. Dr. Bedford also wasted no time in letting me know what his final diagnosis was, and how to best treat my injury. Not having to wait to find out what was wrong or how to best proceed going forward made this process more pleasant than any other medical experience I have had so far. In short, I can't recommend Dr. Bedford and his team enough! If I ever have another knee issue, I wouldn't see anyone but him.
Very friendly doctor and medical staff! The appointment was very thorough and I felt well cared for. Take note that even though you fill out the zocdoc forms and online forms, they still make you fill out new forms in the office. To minimize the time, you can print out forms from their website (specific to each doctor) and fill them out before the appointment. Also great that they have access to Lenox Hill Radiology so I didn’t even need to call the hospital to have my records sent over!
The whole staff was helpful and welcoming. I was apprehensive at first because I had never used an online system to book a doctor but I’m glad I did. The reception team and support staff were friendly and helpful. Dr. Bedford never tried to push surgery or meds. It was a great overall experience and I will recommend the doctor and his staff to anyone that needs help.
