Getting to know Vanessa Bowen
I believe that people seek counseling for a variety of reasons and when people are suffering from mental and or emotional pain, it can interfere with a persons overall wellbeing. Many times when a person is feeling and experiencing pain, this can make a person feel disconnected from others. I believe that when a person reaches out for help and support, this is the first step in the healing process. Through establishing and building a therapeutic relationship, based on congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathetic understanding, I can help facilitate a place to foster healing, personal growth, change, and self discovery.
What should a new client know about working with you?
While the foundation and core of my work with others is client centered, I often incorporate and use techniques from other modalities, such as CBT and DBT. I know that there is no one size fits all approach to treatment and I like to customize my approach to treatment based on the unique and individualized needs of those in which I am working with.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Asking for help is not easy and by doing so, it is the first step in the healing process. I invite those of you whom are hurting to reach out for help and support - you do not have to endure this on your own, there are people like myself who can and want to help. Lifeline Medical Center uses Therapy Notes for our sessions. Once scheduled you will receive an email from Therapy Notes Patient Portal to make your patient login. There will be a "to-do" list of documents we ask you to complete within 24 hours. This will be where you have your scheduled session with your provider via telehealth, you will log back into your portal the day of your appointment and click the link to start your session.

I should not have to fill out more forms to see an online therapist than I do to buy a house or have major surgery. She has over a dozen forms to fill out before she will talk to you. I wasn't able to fill them all out before my appointment (I am going through an EXTREMELY stressful time, which is why I was reaching out for help). She could have been patient and let me fill out the extra 11 forms really quick, but she wasnt. Before even asking me how I was doing, she asked about the forms and kept asking me if there was "another time that would work" for me. No. There's not. THIS is the time that works for me, which is why I booked the appointment. In fact, Lifeline Medical reached out to me to reschedule my appointment since she was not actually available at the time I had originally booked on Zocdoc. So this was already the time that worked for HER, not me. I didn't feel like she was going to be able to empathize with me so I ended the appointment right there.
