Dr.Castillo received her degree as Medical Doctor and Surgeon from the University of Valle in Cali, Colombia, and her degree in Psychiatry from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where She had the privilege of serving as Chief Resident in her last year. Dr. Castillo then did Fellowships in Public Psychiatry and Geriatrics at Columbia University.
She is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. She has had academic appointments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and currently is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College.
Dr. Castillo has a strong commitment to public service, working in the public sector for most of her career and volunteering at several non-profit organizations. She worked for five years as attending psychiatrist for Bensonhurst Assertive Community Treatment team and Medical Director of Bensonhurst Psychiatric Services. Currently, she is the Director of Consultation Psychiatry at Metropolitan Hospital Center.
Dr. Castillo is bi-cultural and trilingual being fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
