When things aren’t working right we want them to change. We may feel that we ourselves need to change, but we are afraid to try. And part of ourselves doesn’t want to change at all. We need to feel safe in order to reveal, and even to discover, who we are. But we may also need to be challenged to try to live life differently. As a therapist I try to provide an environment that is safe enough for revelation and discovery, and challenging enough for change.
I work with adults in individual psychotherapy to address anxiety, discontent, depression, life transitions, sexual problems, identity issues and relationship troubles (spouse/partner, boyfriend/girlfriend, family members, friends, boss, coworkers, employees). About half the people I work with are gay, lesbian, or bisexual. I have also worked with transgender and intersexual people.
I have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research. I have been in private practice since 2002. I take most major insurance plans.
Starting therapy can be difficult. You may think that the therapist is going to judge you, even if she or he doesn’t say so. You may wonder whether you really can be helped. Will the therapist understand me? And how to know if this therapist is right for me? Pay attention to your gut feeling when you are talking on the phone with the therapist and especially at your first meeting with him or her.

Dr. Dinneen is hands down the best therapist I have worked with. He remembers details, which are enlightening as he helps me see behavior patterns and equips me with the cognitive tools to address them.
