**Please Note: Dr. Chung is not unable to prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses** Dr. Chung specializes in the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatments of vitreoretinal diseases. This most commonly includes macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and tears, and retinal vascular occlusions. Dr. Chung is notably skillful in performing intraocular injections with minimal discomfort and is one of the few retinal surgeons who surgically treat large subretinal hemorrhages from wet macular degeneration. He is happily married and currently resides in the D.C. Metropolitan area. In his spare time, Dr. Chung volunteers at various health fairs such as Pan-Asian Health, Chinese American Senior Services Association, and others in the metropolitan area. Dr. Chung speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. He strives to provide each patient with personalized and thorough care and emphasizes patient education during visits. He seemed like a nice enough guy who wanted to help, but he was not a good listener (he tends to interrupt to say "got it") and he was too high drama. He likes "serious" cases and he dislikes contact lenses, so his interests affect his service. He might be okay to see if you have something very serious wrong with your eyes because then the high drama could be appropriate. But even then, the blunt and dramatic bedside manner could be a problem. (That said, the elderly folks who were there seemed to like him, so maybe it works for some patients)

I had checked in online so all I did was pay my co-pay and they copied my insurance card and ID. In 10 minutes I was seen by a staff members checking my eyes. Later, Dr. Chung went over the results of my photo taken of my eyes and recommended changes to help with my diabetes. I was in and out in an hour. I'm a happy patient.

I was seeking an eye exam and a fitting for contact lenses but Mr. Chung does not provide those. He's a specialist. He personally walked me upstairs to an eye doctor's office that does provide those services, but unfortunately they did not accept my insurance.
Had to wait 55 minutes before they dilated my eyes. Then sat for another 40 minutes before I was seen. My appt was at 3, and I didnt leave the place until 5:20. I didn't imagine it would take NEARLY that long for a routine eye appt. The doctor and staff were very pleasant though. Dr. Chung talked very fast and moved fast, seeming like he wanted to rush me out- but it was probably just because they were backed up.
