Yoon-Soo Cindy Bae, M.D., received her Bachelor in Science degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating as a UC Presidential Scholar. She earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed a surgical internship at Weill Cornell New York Presbyterian Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Bae completed her residency training in dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine and her laser, cosmetic and MOHS surgery fellowship at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. During her residency, Dr. Bae has received numerous awards and grants and has presented at national and international meetings (AAD, ASDS, ODAC, NEDS, World Congress). She is the recipient of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) Cutting Edge Research Grant 2011 to investigate the role of collagenase in keloids, obtaining an IND from the FDA. Dr. Bae was presented with the ASDS Young Investigators Writing Competition Award for conducting a study on perioperative antibiotic use in dermatologic surgery. In addition, she has explored perceptions of isotretinoin use, funded by the American Acne and Rosacea Society. Recently, she was awarded the La Roche Posay North American Foundation Research Grant to evaluate self perceptions of skin aging and skin cancer risk after facial skin analysis. She has also served as a Resident Reviewer for the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, Resident Editor for the Dermatology Self Assessment Program, and contributor for the Dermatology-In-Review Educational Testing and Assessment Systems

Very bad bedside manner. She yelled at me. It was very unprofessional of her treating patient like that. She didn’t even explain to me in an informative way what cause my skin problems. She made it sounds like it’s patient’s faults and she has to fix it. This was very discouraging seeing her in the future.

I went to Dr. Bae for a skin screening checkup and found her to be very thorough and knowledgable. The visit seemed slightly rushed, but she was friendly and I appreciated actually being called in early and the doctor being so well organized. She even took care of some questionable skin spots during the examination. As with any doctors visit, good to try to think of questions you might have ahead of time so you can be ready during the visit.

First of all, I want everyone to know I rarely write reviews. But this experience was so AWFUL that I really do not want anyone to fall victim to the same experience I had and felt compelled to provide a warning.
I had never received a routine annual skin screening but regretfully at the suggestion of Zocdoc, I made an appointment for a checkup (which in retrospect was extremely foolish) knowing that I have excellent health per notice given by my primary physician and that my family has no history of skin disease.
I walked in the day of my appointment and clarified with medical staff whether the checkup would be fully covered by insurance since it was a preventative appointment. They affirmed that this was the case and the way they framed the response made me believe this appointment fell under the realms of a general annual checkup which would be covered by insurance and not count towards my deductible—which ultimately ended being grossly incorrect. I blindly trusted that as healthcare providers, they had called my insurance to verify what they told me and what they told me would be the truth.
After filling out paperwork, I was left in the waiting room over 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time until I was finally escorted to a screening room. My meeting with Dr. Bae was short. She was kind, and this very negative experience has less to do with her but more her staff and back office support. Dr. Bae took a cursory look over my skin and deemed me to have excellent skin after a quick 5 to 10 minute checkup with other nurses in the room.
Fast forward one month. Understanding that the short checkup was covered, imagine my shock when I saw an unexpected [VERY LARGE AMOUNT THAT MUST BE REDACTED FOR PURPOSES OF THIS REVIEW] credit card charge on my account. I called to inquire about the charge and after being transferred multiple times by Dr. Bae's staff, I was put on the phone with billing who I had a long conversation with about how my expectations and what I was told did not align with the charge that showed up on my account. The gentleman I spoke with was extremely rude and basically pointed fingers telling me it was my fault for not checking with my policy beforehand. I called back to speak to the office staff, but they were just as unprofessional and I was transferred multiple times by various admins. I was hung up on twice and put on hold for over 20 minutes (I have logs of the calls).
I finally had to resort to speaking with Dr. Bae herself since no one was productively listening to or helping with my concerns after being egregiously misled and misinformed. I am still waiting on a response from Dr. Bae who called me back and told me she would try to figure out a solution to my concerns but guaranteed no promises. I appreciate her trying to rectify what happened but it remains yet to be seen if she will act on what she told me.
Also important to mention is how she told me that negative reviews on Yelp were a common problem (even though reviews on Zocdoc were glowing which is all I referenced during my due diligence into booking this checkup—which was my mistake). Today I checked the other reviews people wrote and how many had similar experiences. Now I know this was not an isolated incident and sit here wishing I had read all the terrible reviews that this practice gets.
I highly recommend you take your healthcare elsewhere unless you want to become another victim of a nontransparent, uncaring and unprofessional practice. It scares me I left my credit card on file with unqualified and incompetent staff who promise one thing and deliver something else and do not even bother to listen to a patient’s qualms when inquiring. Now I am forced to monitor my accounts more carefully in anticipation of future charges without any notice or based on false conceived notions of a “service” that was advertised as being covered by insurance. Please do not make the same mistake as me and avoid the overall headache you are bound to have if you go to Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.

I thought that she was excellent. Very efficient. Educated me about ABCDE, where I have met various Doctors who fail to educate their patients. She was very honest and could have taken my money to fix a skin problem I had but she said the problem would come back and it would be a waste of money. I will be back for any problems and/or my next annual check up. Oh, and I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes!

I came to Dr. Bae to check up on my severe rash due to insect bite. She was very professional and the visit was quick and straight to the point. She asked me if I had other dermatology questions and since I did not, we were done in less than 10 minutes. The staff were all very nice and friendly.

Overall every visit I have had with Dr. Bae has been amazing! She is very honest and informative when it comes to my skin. I have always struggled with pimples & dry skin and since becoming her patient my skin has never looked better! Each visit she takes time to explain products to me as well as potential things which may cause harm to my skin. Dr. Bae and the office overall is extremely organized, helpful, and friendly! I would highly recommend her!
