About Dr. John Havens Cary
Havens Cary, MD is a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. Originally from New Orleans, Havens graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with High Honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Shortly after, he returned to his hometown where he attended Louisiana State University School of Medicine. While in medical school, he completed a research fellowship at University of California San Francisco under esteemed dermatologist Dr. Howard Maibach, where he published over 20 peer-reviewed research articles/textbook chapters. Havens completed his dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn and has continued his commitment to advancement in the field of dermatology as chief editor of Rosacea (Updates in Clinical Dermatology) and active member of the American Academy of Dermatology. In addition to acne and rosacea, Havens has interests in alopecia and other hair disorders, cutaneous oncology (skin cancer screening and management), laser therapy, psoriasis, and other inflammatory skin conditions. He is dedicated to preventive medicine and mastering the latest emerging treatments and solutions to his patient’s problems. Havens is excited for the opportunity to join the Dermatology Specialists and continue to deliver his unique patient-centered approach and personalized care to all.

I am not sure if he knew what kind of skin condition I had. I left feeling confused, which is unsettling when you come to a doctor wanting to know what you have.

Pretty unhelpful. I went to see Dr. Cary and he did not do a full examination the first visit and brushed me off to come back in 2 weeks. Two weeks later, he is very alarmed by my condition.
After the second visit he did not leave me with any materials or instructions for the creams I was prescribed. Very frustrating experience.
