Dr. Zhongping Lu, MD, PhD, LAc is a Professor of George Washington University with expertise in the acupuncture treatment of insomnia, anxiety/depression, migraine, back pain and rare diseases. Dr. Lu received his MD and PhD in China. He completed four years of residency training in Anesthesiology. After PhD, Dr. Lu joined NIH as a scientist focusing on mitochondrial biology research. Later Dr. Lu moved to George Washington University as a faculty and Principal Investigator of NIH grant running an independent lab . His research focuses on mitochondrial biology in the pathogenesis of drug liver toxicity, alcoholic liver disease and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Lu published more than 20 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. He also serves as an editor and reviewer of many scientific journals. Dr. Lu is certificated in United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and National Board of Acupuncture. He has a broad background of west medicine, molecular medicine and East Asian medicine, as well as more than 15 years of clinical experience. Dr. Lu is also appointed as a Professor at Virginia University of Integrative Medicine. He teaches western medicine including Anatomy & Physiology, Pathology and Internal Medicine at Virginia University of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Lu lives in Rockville, Maryland with his wife and two sons (10 and 12 years old). He likes running, hiking, and science.
