I specialize in working with individuals and couples of color helping with depression, anxiety, maladaptive family dynamics, overcoming trauma, colorism, impacts of racism, uprooting cultural disparities, relationship challenges, and regular life challenges.
My approach
I aim to teach or rebuild positive communication and conflict-resolution skills. I also aim to use evidence-based interventions such as solution-focused and Cognitive Behavioral Techniques with an Afrocentric worldview.
My focus
I have a direct approach as well as value rapport building to empower my clients to adjust their thoughts feelings and behaviors. I hold clients accountable to their goals and expectations they set for themselves.
My communication style
My potential clients would be ready to explore the possibility that they may be contributing to their own problems. My specialty revolves around validating and empathizing with the experiences of men and women of color. Whether they are individually seeking change or as a couple my therapy style will revolve around acknowledging the experiences, telling the truth, and seeing where the shift can happen, if any. Sometimes it is the workplace environment, family dynamics, racism, colorism, etc. As those things exist and have real implications on our mind, body, and spirit, it’s important to understand why, how, and what we can do to empower ourselves to confront those things.
My goals for you
My goal is to have my clients think about their choices and how the power of choosing something different can lead to the positive change we want to see. In this process, it may not feel good, your ego may be hurt, you may not like what I’m saying or pointing out, but I promise if you stick with the process you will come out stronger and empowered to move through your life the way you would like.
