Barbara is an empathetic listener and a perceptive one. She picks up on themes & patterns early & is very encouraging to clients to explore them. And a very positive & affirmuy person, too.
I have been seeing Barbara for about one year now; however long before I ever even considered therapy I knew I was struggling with anxiety and negative self-talk; particularly after drinking. Regardless of the amount I drank, I would wake up feeling remorseful and beat myself up telling myself "alcohol is a depressant" and "everyone feels this way after tossing back a few" to justify my feelings. This went on for years, and I unintentionally found solace having cocktails "just to take the edge off" more often than not. Though this method seemed to work, I wasn't focusing on the problem; and it all came to a screeching halt when I accidentally shook the foundation of my relationship with the person I hold closest to me. Once I realized this was now a threat to my loved ones, I knew I needed to start seeking professional help to move forward. I had not seen a therapist beforehand, and was nervous to open up to someone I didn't know about such personal issues. I always imagined visiting a therapist as it is portrayed on television — where the patient lays on the couch and talks while the therapist takes notes in silence until it is time to schedule the next visit. When I first met with Barbara, however, I quickly realized I couldn't be more wrong. She was warm, accepting and very engaged making me feel very comfortable speaking to her within our first session. With her expertise, she has helped me immensely with understanding more about myself, my emotions, and how to react whenever the "shame spiral" returns. Words cannot describe how much Barbara has helped me and my relationships. I would (and have) recommend Barbara to anyone seeking professional help. Deciding to meet with her, rather than other therapists located closer to me, was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
My sessions have stabilized my life and allowed me to feel more in control of my destiny. The work is difficult at times. Barbara is empathetic and kind. She makes me see situations from different perspectives. I feel like she is a great partner for me in this process.
I've been a client of Barbara's for about 13 years. I've done both individual and group work with her. In a word, Barbara is a highly empathetic, thorough clinician who brings a keen insight into the relationship along with strong methodology and no-nonsense practice. She is able to develop a strong supportive bond with her clients while stressing the boundaries of self-growth and self-insight. I feel we have an excellent, well-examined relationship, one on which I am growing healthy, outer-relations with all there around me in life. I would also say that the group she led was fundamental to my life and I am grateful to continue working with her individually. I would recommend her to anyone who asked.
Ms. Mazzarella is empathtic, kind, and very smart. Very knowledgeable in all facts of life. Our therapeutic relationship and treatment has a connection for me that is very powerful and healing. Ms. Mazzarella is encouraging & engaging, her work is relevant, competent and successful in helping with client-oriented treatment & good. I highly recommend her
