First time visiting and I've been to many therapists and could not find the right fit. She was on point, kind and understanding.

I have found my visits with Beth to be consistently supportive. As a therapist she is sensative but realistic in her guidance. Her office is a “judgement free” zone which allows for you to explore your life journey with honest and insightful feedback that one can put into action with positive results.

More about Dr. Beth Althofer, PhD

I am a nationally certified psychoanalytic psychotherapist and state-licensed psychoanalyst in private practice in New York City. “How many therapist does it take to change a light bulb?” ….” One, but the light bulb has to want to change!” In this jest lies a fundamental truth: it takes two to make the therapeutic journey together, and a good fit can insure the best results. Will a therapeutic relationship with me work for you? When we meet, I hope you experience my empathy, non-judgmental attitude, respect, and an appreciation of who you are. (And how much I love my work!). For over three decades, I have worked with individuals, couples and groups. I work with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds who come with many different needs. Because my approach is relational and psychodynamic, you should expect to feel empowered in your own treatment. Together we will build a relationship and plan strategies that work specifically for you. If we decide to work together, I aim to provide an environment of safety and trust, whatever your cultural background, sexual orientation, professional or work issues and emotional/relationship needs. I look forward to meeting you and taking the first step of our journey together.

Beth was warm and welcoming, which made her easy to talk to. She gave me insight into the issues I needed to discuss with her. She gave me ideas and tools, to help with a number of things Im working on. Definately a possitive experience. She’s incredibly professional and smart.
I felt comfortable the minute I walked into Beth's office. I felt an immediate connection. Beth is non-judgemental and intuitive and easy to talk to. She has a subtle but sure way to help you reach inside of yourself. She exudes positivity and warmth. I have already recommended Beth to several friends/acquaintances. I recommend Beth without reservation!
I have been seeing Beth on a regular basis for a year now, after a death in the family left me completely lost. Beth is not only the most professional, helpful, & accomodating therapist that I've ever worked with, but she is also one of the most insightful, understanding, & compassionate people that I know in general. Our sessions help to clarify my thought process in order to approach my issues in a more constructive manner, & together we sort through all sorts of different matters. I'm so grateful to have her as a therapist. Also, she makes herself available to reach out to around.
I have been seeing Beth on a regular basis for over a year after seeing several patterns in my relationships I wanted to change. It was my first foray into therapy and I know know how fortunate I was to be referred to her. Goal-oriented, interactive and challenging while being professional, compassionate and skilled, she is gifted at connecting seemingly disparate experiences. Her process and observations helped me accelerate my own self-knowledge & chart a different path.
