Brenda is an extremely accomplished and professional therapist! I have seen her for over four years. She always asks the right questions and is great at creating a comfortable space for sharing your own thoughts/concerns about anything. I also think Brenda does a great job of being able to understand and respond to issues that are more culturally specific. One of Brenda's strengths is knowing when to focus on an issue or suggest that it might be time to let it sit/approach it from a different angle over the course of multiple sessions. I tried therapy many times before Brenda and I can say that she is the best therapist I have ever had!
I had a great experience and have learned so much about myself in this therapy process. Brenda approaches things realistically and optimistically, and I always feel better after our sessions. She is very knowledgeable about all types of healing and has encouraged me to focus on my values to create the life I want. I feel more confident, less anxious, and have much better/healthier relationships now. I could not recommend highly enough!

More about Brenda Reavis, LCSW

I am a firm believer in centering healing over treatment which means that my work integrates evidence-based western treatment with nonwestern and decolonized healing methods. I am a proud queer Black woman and have spent many years in community organizing and advocacy spaces. Most people would describe me as a social worker first, meaning I practice from a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, anti-oppressive, and liberation-focused lens. Above all, I believe in the healing power of healthy relationships and much of my work is relational including the ways I model self-care and boundaries with every client.

Brenda has made every session together a space to feel safe and supported. Brenda’s constant ability to empathize and be solution-oriented has allowed me to leave each session knowing that I’m prepared with coping mechanisms to manage my stressors. Brenda’s emphasis on healing has allowed me the opportunity to grow and develop in a way that will last, as Brenda focuses not on quick-fixes, but rather, substantial solutions rooted in empathy and understanding. Brenda is also so open-minded such that I never feel as though I have to filter my thoughts or present her with fully fleshed-out ideas. I could explain my thoughts and feelings to her even with half-baked ideas, and she’d help me flesh those ideas out and provide perspective that I hadn’t thought of before. Brenda has been so respectful and overall, it’s been a wonderful experience to attend and complete sessions with her. I cannot thank her enough for her guidance and support, and I would highly recommend her services!
I have worked with Brenda for over a year and have found my work with her to be very meaningful and important. I have unearthed a lot of profound discoveries about myself that have helped me make sense of long-held relational, emotional, and behavioral patterns that I have struggled with. Brenda has been patient as I have unearthed much of this. She openly discusses the role of patriarchy and takes a very critical and power-oriented approach to helping me work through some of the things I have struggled with. I have had two therapists before working with Brenda, and I have found the work I have done with her to be some of the most useful, insightful, and revelatory work I have done in therapy thus far. I highly recommend her as a clinician!
Brenda is a sharp, intuitive, and compassionate clinician. She has a keen eye, and is willing to dig deep in her work with clients. She stands as a partner, protector, and (gentle) "pusher", often leading clients to walk far beyond what they had ever imagined possible. She values accountability and acceptance, and works with clients to develop these skill-sets. Brenda is inclusive, and an exemplar of a social worker in both life and practice: she protects with, stands with, and speaks out with. Fiercely loyal, a client need not doubt her dedication to them - a rarity in today's world. I'd readily recommend her to anyone looking for exploration, expansion, healing, and growth. Brenda is a provider that you can trust as a partner, confidant.
Brenda is incredibly kind, patient and respectful. I was nervous before starting up counseling again, but after my first meeting I knew things would be okay. I never feel pressured or pushed in our meetings, but I am challenged and I’ve grown a lot in the few months we have been working together.
I have worked with Brenda for several years now and I will forever be grateful for the strides she’s assisted me in making. Dealing with my childhood trauma, seeing me through divorce, establishing boundaries in relationships and working with me through my recovery journey. It hasn’t always been easy but, she’s helped me see that it’s worth and that I am worth it. We deal in the solution. I can’t sing her praises enough. Highly recommended. 10/10
Brenda is an excellent active listener who makes connections and shares insights. She does not just listen to what I have to say but she asks questions focussing in the areas that ultimately help me unstuck. While Brenda can empathize she is also able to provide perspective to challenges, which helps me identify the areas where I need to direct my work.
Brenda is a truly incredible therapist. After two underwhelming experiences with therapists, I was reluctant to go back to therapy but knew I needed to after a family trouble. I have been going to Brenda for several years now and have grown tremendously as a person each year, which I attribute part due to her expert guidance, deep engagement with my personal history, and clear investment in my progression. Brenda shows her care while maintaining professional boundaries; she demonstrates this through flexibility in appointment scheduling and remembering key details about my life and background that enable very productive conversations during our sessions. Brenda has given me the tools to set boundaries, build up my self confidence, and construct a strong support network in my personal life. She has given me so much perspective on how I operate in the world and gifted me with helpful tools that I'll rely on truly for the rest of my life. I could not recommend working with her more!
