Hello, My name is Carol Hernandez, LCSW. I am excited to be able to provide therapy services to people seeking a better version of themselves. I believe in positive psychology and practicing mindfulness. I have experience in adoption- working with both birth parents and adoptive parents.
My approach
My fundamental approach to therapy is starting where the client is at. Meaning, I will tailor therapy based on what you as a client are hoping to achieve. Some of the theoretical approaches I use range from solution-focused brief therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and a strength-based approach.
My focus
I have experience working with adoption-related issues, including the adoption triad, infertility issues, and grief and loss. I also work with clients who wish to improve their overall well-being.
My communication style
I like to create a peaceful, calming space for you to really feel comfortable. Oftentimes, we are surrounded by a bunch of noise- whether that be the hustle and bustle of life, children, work, and society as a whole. I wish to provide a space where you can have a moment to reflect and recharge yourself.
My journey to therapy
I have always had a strong desire to help others. I have worked with children and families for approximately 20 years in different settings. I am a great listener and have the skill set to help empower you to become a better version of yourself.
My goals for you
I like to set realistic goals, with a plan to achieve those goals. We can draw on past experiences that have worked well and see how we can reapply those in areas of struggle.
My first session with you
You should expect to have a comfortable first session with me. I am not easily shocked, so I like to say you are entering a judgment-free zone. I will work alongside you to talk through things you may be going through.
