�Destiny Phillips� is a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space that allows individuals to feel seen and heard with their daily struggles. My hope is to help my clients overcome the issues they face in daily life and assist in developing tools to live a more fulfilling life.
My professional and academic background have prepared me to work with diverse populations and an array of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, boundary setting, relationship issues, and improving the family dynamic. I received my Bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology from Farmingdale State College and my Master's degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University.
I pride myself on being a culturally competent counselor and implementing culture within the therapeutic space and its impact on clients' mental well-being. Each client is unique in terms of their background and experience, which is why an eclectic approach suits the individuality of each client and their needs. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which allows me to help clients manage daily stressors by providing healthy coping skills that are proven to reduce unpleasant emotions and overcome challenges. Trauma-informed therapy enables me to consider the impact trauma has on an individual's well-being and how it shapes their ability to cope. This approach respects the sensitivity of an individual's trauma and brings a sense of safety surrounding the traumatic event, which helps validate the client's thoughts and feelings.
