James "Jim" Grisham, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Nurse. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Narrative Therapy. Comfortable with seeing clients who have a Christian Faith Worldview. But, I am also willing to work with consumers who are not involved in a faith community.
My approach
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Also Narrative Therapy .
My focus
Adult consumers with depression, and anxiety issues. I have worked with Mature Adults who have late-life depression. I have worked with adults and older adults who have complicated grief and trauma experiences. I have also worked with Transitional Age Youth experiencing depression and anxiety and who are struggling with autonomy and developmental issues. I have also worked with couples who are struggling with marital or relational issues.
My communication style
Clients have expressed that they have enjoyed the calm and encouraging tone that I create. My goal is to be their advocate. I work to be both supportive and challenging clients that I work with to make more productive and healthy steps towards recovery and stability of their issues. My focus is to empower them to make changes that are within their control.
My journey to mental healthcare
What attracted me to be a therapist is that I was helped by teachers, coaches, and therapists in my youth and early 20s, and wanted to give back to others. I have been involved in behavioral health care for 44 years. I have always experienced a significant amount of pleasure in assisting consumers and families to find more productive thoughts and behaviors that assist them in discovering their internal strength and wellness. I feel privileged to give back the blessings that have been granted to me. I feel this work is a vocation and a calling--to honor those who have come before me.
