A great therapist with a surprisingly refreshing take.

I saw this therapist briefly (about three weeks, including intake sessions) and decided not to continue. During a discussion about session frequency, I was told that clients who see her twice a week typically have suicidal ideation, and that therapy should not be used as a “crutch.” Given that I shared having significant family issues, no job, and limited social support, this felt invalidating and minimizing of my mental health concerns.
She also mentioned working six days a week and being tired, and questioned what I would do if she took a day off, which made me feel hesitant to express my needs and feel like requesting additional sessions was a burden. There were also constant moments of yawning and responses like “that makes sense” before I had finished speaking, which made me feel unheard. The overall tone of our interactions felt dismissive and left me feeling judged rather than supported.
She has a very clinical, detached approach, but it was not the right fit for me.
