My interest for occupational therapy started while pursuing my Bachelor in Psychology. This is when I saw firsthand how engaging in meaningful activities isn’t just about enjoyment but how it is essential for mental health and overall well-being. That understanding led me to pursue a Master in Occupational Therapy at Stony Brook University, where I could merge the psychological foundations with hands-on intervention. During my fieldwork, I had the opportunity to work in a hand therapy setting. This is where my interest in hand therapy began. Working with patients who are relearning to use their upper extremity, to do daily tasks they love or once took for granted, showed me how transformative therapy can be. The hand is such a central tool in so many of our valued activities such as eating, writing, creating, and caring.
