Creativity can illuminate our path to healing. Most of us are looking for peace with ourselves, in relationships, and as we move through our world. In my work, I see individuals or families who are exploring and seeking to heal issues such as loss, depression, anxiety, life transitions, abuse, and trauma. I draw on a wide variety of theories: Client-centered, Existential, and Jungian psychology, and combine them in a creative way in my practice to provide an integrative approach which is educational, solution-oriented, and transformational. I am a practicing artist and use techniques and theories which resonate with the client to illuminate a path to change and healing through creativity. Some of the tools I use in my work are: all forms of art making, journaling, goal setting, relaxation techniques, guided visualizations, creative writing, stress reduction techniques, reframing, mindfulness, and meditation techniques. My undergraduate degree is in social work and I completed my master's degree in art therapy and counseling in 2008. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a registered and board-certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). I have spent nearly 30 years working in the mental health field and for the last seven years have held a position as a program director at HopeWest in Grand Junction, Colorado, where I have been employed for 21 years. I’ve spent eight years developing a part-time private practice at ArtLight Therapy & Studios - illuminating the path to healing through creativity. Contract Art Therapy services for organizations and agencies to provide creative staff education/support and art therapy for individual clients and groups (e.g., partnering with Sozo Youth Sanctuary Foundation to provide creative sanctuary for adolescents with a history of trauma).
