I started seeing Kara last year for anxiety—sort of the overall all-the-time type. She’s helping me to articulate my feelings better and to identify negative thoughts and the evidence that supports or doesn’t support them. I’ve recently been going through a large life change—potentially ending a long term relationship—and have felt able to talk about it freely and with no judgment.

Kara has been wonderful to work with thus far. She is easy-going, empathetic, and has created a comfortable environment in which we can both freely engage in open dialogue. She pushes me to think critically, but remains kind and compassionate all the while.

In my practice, my priority is to offer a warm, comfortable, and judgement-free space to safely process experiences and explore thoughts and feelings. My style as a therapist is relaxed, open, unstructured, and collaborative. I use a client-centered and strengths-based approach, and believe that an honest and equal partnership between client and therapist is the foundation for transformative healing.
Modality & Approach
My approach to therapy is compassionate, integrative, and adaptive to the unique needs and goals of each individual client. Using a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens, I work from a primarily psychodynamic perspective rooted in attachment and relational theories. I incorporate practice methods from a diverse range of evidence-based modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy/dialectical behavior therapy, psychodynamic/insight-oriented therapy, and systems therapies. My recent focus has been on supporting my clients through the application of trauma-focused therapies based on neuroscience and the connection between mind and body.
What is one thing you do daily that supports your mental health and well-being?
Music has always been my number one healer—providing me with a never-ending supply of comfort, inspiration, and joy. So it’s essential for me to make time each day to listen to my favorite music (either “of the moment” or “of all time”) usually accompanied by uninhibited singing and dancing in my apartment.

She is super personal and down to earth. She makes you feel super comfortable and relatable but can also be super serious when she knows the situation needs it and give you great ideas on ways to work through your problems.

I immediately felt completely comfortable with Kara, she has a way to make you feel as if you’ve known her forever. After trying a few different therapists that I didn’t feel were organic fits, I had felt like maybe this wasn’t for me. I am so grateful I tried one more. I leave each session feeling lighter and like I have been able to work through whatever was needed that session. It was also a priority of mine to be able to do virtual sessions, as I am on the road a lot for work and have a very busy life with small children at home, so our appointments need to be flexible in location. This is working out so well, and she is so wonderful!
