Our life experiences, including trauma, shape how we perceive and interact with the world. Sometimes we get stuck in the injustice of our experiences, but that does not help us heal or move forward. Lia offers a balanced combination of compassion, empathy, and gentle challenge when needed. She helps clients identify and change negative core beliefs using both cognitive and somatic approaches. As a certified trauma therapist, Lia always works from a trauma-informed lens, even with clients who have not identified trauma.
She understands the importance of educating clients about the mind-body connection and what we experience physically and mentally. Lia incorporates classic psychotherapy with skills training, drawing on techniques from DBT and CBT such as radical acceptance, mindfulness, grounding techniques, and challenging cognitive distortions. Her goal is to help clients create the life they want by letting go of unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, or behaviors and feeling empowered in their life choices, including being active participants in their treatment.
Lia recognizes that therapy is not one-size-fits-all and that therapists must adapt if approaches are not effective. By building a strong therapeutic alliance, she works collaboratively with each client to find the most effective methods to reach their treatment goals. She is eclectic in her approach and welcomes client feedback on how therapy is working or not working for them.
