I felt comfortable with Marlene immediately. She helped me through a rough patch. I was newly married, but having an affair that I wasn't sure I wanted to give up. I never felt judged by Marlene and her only desire was to help me make my own decisions. She also helped me understand how much of my behavior was because of my anxiety. I'm feeling more accepting of who I am and the challenges I have.

As another reviewer has noted, Marlene Swartz is an excellent listener. I have always found her to be empathetic and wise. Even better, she has a genius sense of humor which means sessions, even the painful ones, are always leavened by her ability to find amusement beyond the darkness. Her background in theatre and lifelong interest in the arts make her truly supportive of creative people and understanding of their often difficult lives. I would definitely recommend her.

Marlene Swartz spent twenty years in theatre and film, founding an award-winning off-Broadway theatre company as well as co-directing--with the artists themselves--Blue Man Group’s first commercial show. In the early 90’s she decided she wanted to use her creative skills to help patients direct their own transformations. Her approach is collaborative, based on your strengths and is shaped to meet your needs. She uses her psychotherapy training and nearly 30 years of experience to discover how you got to where you are at this moment. But she doesn’t leave you there; she helps you make the changes to move on. But most of all, she helps you to accept the unique person you are. As George Carlin said “Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music.”
The world is reeling right now, and Marlene can help you find hope, hope to fight anxiety and depression, hope to improve your relationship with your partner, your parents, your children, your boss; hope to just feel better.
Marlene has worked extensively with actors, writers, musicians, filmmakers, but also with salespeople, lawyers, office workers, etc.
While Marlene is not fluent in Spanish, her love of Mexico, where she has a second home, has made her a good fit for those patients who are Mexican and speak English.
Fee is $200 per 50 minutes session ($60 for the initial session). While we do not accept insurance, we provide invoices and diagnostic information for those who have out of network benefits. We may, on occasion and at our discretion, adjust the fee for self paying patients under special circumstances.

Marlene is extremely easy to talk to. Not only is she a great listener (which has not always been my experience with therapists), she asks the right questions. She manages to know exactly the place you need to get to while getting you to realize it on your own. I have sessions where I leave happier and lighter than when I started, even the ones when I really didn't want to deal with my stuff and she pushed me (especially those). She's been a huge part of my getting to a place of peace and grace. She's a great therapist. I can't recommend her enough.
