More about Dr. Michael Russo, DPT

Dr. Michael Russo was born and raised in Hoboken. A graduate of Hoboken High, Michael went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Richard Stockton College, a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Utica College. Michael has been in practice as a Physical Therapist for 15 years, owning multiple private practice locations. Since beginning his career he has specialized in sports and orthopedic rehabilitation. Most recently he has added vestibular rehabilitation to his resume. Certified by the American Institute of Balance, Dr. Russo founded the New Jersey Institute of Balance, a premier orthopedic & vestibular rehabilitation center. Dr. Russo learned the importance of service to his community early in life, from his earliest days as a Boy Scout, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. The drive to help others continued through his adolescence and young adulthood. His volunteer work as a AL football coach, an assistant scoutmaster and work as a high school summer supplemental education instructor has given him a unique perspective on the lives of many families, and a great sense of fulfillment. Dr. Russo has provided pro bono care for athletes at all levels, including student athletes in their early childhood through high school and college. He has volunteered his services for 12 years to Hoboken High School Football and is currently creating a comprehensive concussion management program monitoring athletes both pre and post-concussion. He also worked with Olympic athletes treating the national Israeli Ice Dance Team. Dr. Russo is also the Standard Bearer of a non-profit organization, Hoboken Pride (formally known as, The Michael Russo Civic Association). Here he was able to provide various community activities for the many residents of Hoboken. Through his non-profit, Michael was also able to raise money for many local charities through the years. A natural extension of the yearning need to help others, Michael entered a career in public service as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment in 2000. In late 2003, Michael was then elected as the Third Ward Councilman in Hoboken, where he still currently serves. He has also served as a commissioner of the Hoboken Housing Authority, where he’s been a tenant advocate and a strong supporter of youth recreation and education programs. In his private life, Michael married Lisa Baptista in 2009. She is a registered dietitian and certified specialist in pediatric nutrition. They are happily married and continue to live in Hoboken raising their beautiful four (4) year old daughter Lia Grace. Dr. Russo’s education and his caring nature have been the driving forces for his need to help others. However, his family has been his primary drive to raise money for the multiple charities, which help to bring awareness and hopefully one day eradicate cancer. Dr. Russo’s father, Anthony, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2000. He was told he would not live long following this devastating news. Contrary to his doctor’s prognosis, he has persevered and is living a happy and full life. It has been Dr. Russo’s faith in God and his love for his family that has continued to keep him driven to help others.
