She’s real, understanding and very knowledgeable in her field and tells me her own struggles and experiences and offers suggestions and recommendations vs other therapists I’ve had in the past who just sit there and don’t offer advice. She’s wonderful to talk to.

More about Monica Stevens-Kirby, LMFT

Monica Stevens-Kirby is a licensed marriage and family therapist, who believes that forming strong relationships and seeking to understand her clients’ total clinical picture is the most vital element to practice. Monica enjoys working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, as well as individuals who present with issues related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, and transitional phases of life. My approach Monica draws on her background in the fine arts to collaborate with her clients on solutions that use critical and creative thinking and practices. Monica is committed to making meaningful connections to clients, despite—and in spite of—this virtual world in which we find ourselves immersed, especially as we navigate a post-pandemic way of life together. My focus Monica finds reward in offering support and affirmation for clients, who, for whatever reason, are tentative to step into their innate authenticity. My communication style Monica appreciates humor, play, and owning who she is. No one’s path is easy, and Monica invites clients to inhabit all that they are. Therapy is meant to challenge us, and therapy is a sacred space to share the deepest parts of ourselves, the things we find hard to talk about, and the ordinary days in which we make do. Understanding our issues are bound to pop up in times of stress, crisis, and transition, Monica acknowledges the ability each of us has to make new meaning of our same old issues, and recognizing we have strengths in what we may have previously considered “flaws” or “problems.” My journey to therapy No one dreams of being a therapist when they grow up. My path is not much different from most people in my field. I learned, and continue to learn, that I was born with innate value, and that I have a right to take up space, use my voice, and be heard. I own the parts of me I once wanted to hide, and I get to rejoice in the things I do well, without apologizing for them.
