She seemed rushed and like I was a bother. Almost like I needed to have a bullet point list of why I was there.
Nancy doesn’t mess around. She gets right to the issue that’s bothering you or will nudge you to figure it out. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need rather than coddling.

She seemed rushed and like I was a bother. Almost like I needed to have a bullet point list of why I was there.
A wonderful, kind and compassionate woman. The finest psychotherapist I have seen in my 5 years living in NY

Eat in front of me while I was talking, had other patients folders basically spread out in front of me
I had a great visit. She was quick, attentive, and understanding. I would let anyone know about her.

Good listener. Attentive. Realistic and knowledgeable
Another visit would be needed to make a true decision

Horrible experience. Would not even shake my hand.

She didn’t feel very engaged.
Immediately felt comfortable with Nancy and she gave honest, thoughtful advice throughout the session, would highly recommend her when you need someone to help you work through life's big and small issues.
Nancy got right to the point - why are you here? She did not waste my time going through a long check list. We were able to spend the entire hour working on the reason I came to see her. Will absolutely be back to see her and would high recommend her to anyone looking for a good therapist.

It was great, empathy, great listening skills
Verified patient
She was highly judgmental, refused to take me on as a patient because she wanted to travel in the summer (even though she said she was taking on new patients), and had me out of her office in less than 5 minutes. Very unprofessional and unpleasant
Verified patient
Absolutely professional as they come.
Nancy was dismissive in her approach and seemed to be in a rush to finish the appointment early - even though it is only a 45 minute appointment. She offered her own opinion regarding the matters we discussed which I believe is not the point of therapy. She did not seem interested to listen and came across as if she did not think these problems were worth her time or that these were problems at all. However people are different and deal with life's challenges in different ways - something benign to one person may be difficult to handle for another. Therapy is supposed to provide a safe and encouraging space in which to discuss issues, gain insight into your behavior and come up with tools to deal with them - which this was not. I left the session feeling judged and as if my worries do not matter.
I enjoyed it, she was great to work with.
shes awesome!

Nancy was lovely to speak with and had some very keen insights. Her manner was open and friendly. The office was also pleasant and comfortable.
Verified patient
She came across condescending and judgmental.
Verified patient
Dr. Bernstein was understanding. She is very pleasant and listened carefully to my concerns. She was very helpful with my concerns. I recommend her to anyone in need.
Verified patient
I liked Dr. Bernstein the one time we met. She was attentive and kind. I wish I'd known she stopped carrying my insurance before I came to the second appointment. Could have saved me some time.
Verified patient
Very warm and understanding. She really listens to what you're saying, and helps you make connections that you might not normally make.
Verified patient
She made me feel uncomfortable. I had to tell her about a family trauma and she made me feel like she was getting a hot piece of gossip. She also didnt make any effort to help lead the conversation even though I was obviously very nervous and uncomfortable. I knew 4 minutes into it that I was never seeing her again.
Verified patient
She was not very warm, and this is supposed to be a place where I feel welcome to open up. I felt complete opposite. I walked in, and she didn't even introduce herself. The very first words out of her mouth was, "sit here, and fill this paperwork out." Right away I felt put off. Once everything was filled out, and I sat down to speak with her, as I was trying to speak, she kept interrupting me. My session time was supposed to be an hour, it was less than 45 minutes. I will never see her again.

I was a little confused by my interaction with this health provider. It seemed the appointment consistent of her telling me what she didn't do and not what she actually does. She lists anxiety as an issue she deals with, yet told me the best treatment is cognitive therapy which she said she doesn't do. Overall, this was not a helpful appointment.
I began my search for a therapist with Dr. Bernstein after a hiatus of several years without therapy, when I felt I needed to go back and deal with some demons I never quite got off my back. She was easy enough to talk to (though I open up easily to most doctors), but I didn't love that she ate lunch while I was talking/ crying, though I gave it a second shot and chalked it up to intro sessions being what they are. During the second session I began to open up about my life-interfering obsession with controlling and worrying about my appearance (having also suffered from severe eating disorders and BDD) and she seemed to have brushed off how much I was controlled by these thoughts despite what I was saying, and actually said "Well everyone wants to look their best", then proceeded to give her personal opinion on my makeup style. That's when I knew this was not the kind of compassionate, intuitive therapist I needed to become more well and in control of what was controlling me, and I never booked another appointment. She kept sending me a bill for a third appointment I never booked at any time, and finally stopped sending them when I moved.
Very abrasive. I did not feel that she listened to me, and was very pushy about what she thought I was feeling, though it contradicted what I was saying.
The office was comfortable, there's no receptionist so you always deal directly with her. I've only seen her once, but she was easy to talk to and seemed to understand my concerns and anxieties. I've already made a follow up appt.
Verified patient
Very uncaring. Looking for easy work, not actual work. I walked out on her before the session was over and made sure she could not charge my insurance for the so called session.
Verified patient
She was prompt and easy to get to. The appointment started right away and the office was quiet and intimate. It seemed like she wants you to be super comfortable so you both sit on leather chairs. I like that she was such a good listener and allowed me to talk alot about my relationship concerns and what had brought me in. I will be going back once more to see if this is truly a good fit but I got a good first impression and first experience.
I was seen quickly. She was very personable
I thoroughly enjoyed my session. She was very attentive and a great listener. I would definitely recommend her. I felt like a huge weight was lifted by the time I left.
Nancy was attentive, insightful and an active listener. She provided quality feedback and was on point on her assessment of situations presented.
Verified patient
I totally recommend her. She was abrupt enough to voice her opinion, but caring enough to listen and always asked the right questions to keep me going. My first therapist in US and I'm sticking with her.
Verified patient
the office is nice quiet and the doctor is warm comforting. i just needed to air out some secrets and it felt safe to do so. i will be going back

Super friendly and approachable
I had never been to a therapist, and I really got a lot out of my first visit. Dr. Bernstein seemed to understand exactly what I was saying, and she was very engaging. I thought I would be lying on a couch talking to the ceiling, but instead it was a conversation. It was nice to be able to not only open up to someone and tell them things I don't tell my close friends, but to receive insight and advice.
Based on our first visit, she seemed to be a good for my husband and I who went for counseling. We are going to see her again. We wish her sessions were longer than 45 mins, we could have used 2 hours in there. We are seeing her in less than a week. We left feeling stronger and had a better understanding of each others feelings even though she did not give feedback on our relationship itself, but our individual behaviors. We both look forward to working with her again.
Okay so I never really write reviews or like to write anything negative but I feel it is my responsibility to tell others about my two visits. Given the sensitive nature of seeking therapy, please beware when seeing Nancy. My instinct after the first visit was to not see her, but I wanted to give her a second try, after the second try I know I will never see her again. Here is why: 1 - With not much diagnosis she recommended medication within 10 minutes. 2 - She referred to me as "your people". I am an American born US citizen. This is highly inappropriate. 3 - When I talked about my profession, she proceeded to ask me why Alibaba went public. This is completely unrelated to why I was seeking Therapy. 4 - She asked me what happened with me as "my people" are so accomplished, and I am not. I have no words here, still recovering from this. 5 - Finally she asked me why my parents, who happen to be immigrants, don't go back to where they came from. This is just insensitive. 6 - She asked me about the country my parents were from, and kept talking to me about how she had visited there and some friends were going to visit this December. Proceeded to call it "exotic". Again, unrelated (and inappropriate) to my therapy session. Suffice to say I will be not be returning after this disturbingly comical "therapy" session. If you're fragile, please don't go to here, please.
Terrible. She's unprofessional and rude. I would describe her style as "combative." She jumped to conclusions and then would retract statements after getting more information. She also told me numerous times that my life story was depressing -- thanks. Patient files were everywhere like a past reviewer noted. If you're having a hard time - I really would not suggest seeing this doctor. Her style seems scattered and judgmental and she didn't always appear to be listening.
I first walked into Nancy's office, a lost and broken person. Right away I was able to open up to Nancy but many things on the Surface not deep rooted issues I didnt yet understand myself. I would see her once or twice and then go months without seeing her again. I was a student not ready to be taught. Months later, I was at rock bottom in life. I reached out to Nancy hoping she would see me again, as I hadnt been a committed patient to her. She did. She's understanding but firm. This time she didn't let me make any excuses. She gave it to me straight. She made me take responsibility for my own choices. Her wisdom, knowledge, and no nonsense attitude helped me change my life. I now see Nancy every single week, and I feel stronger and stronger from her with every visit. She's humble and will never accept any credit for saving my life, but I can honestly say she did. She doesn't coddle you, she doesn't sugar coat things, she doesn't let you hide behind excuses. She may not be for everyone, but to me she is one of the best things to ever happen in my life.

Loved that there was no wait, she saw me right away. I like how blunt she was and she just jumped in with me on my first time seeing her. I felt comfortable enough to open up to her right away. Definitely will be back to see her.
I immediately felt at ease with Nancy. Her demeanor is calming and yet I had the sense that she could take on anything and get right to the issues. I am thrilled to have found someone I can trust.
She was easy to talk to and pleasantly casual. Understanding, intuitive and funny. She made the experience very interactive and I'm seeing her again. Thumbs up!
