Hi, my name is Phonemany Thongkham. You can call me Noy. I am a first generation Laotian and Vietnamese immigrant. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a strong social work background, meaning I factor in the social, environmental, biological, physiological, and social injustices my clients face that may have impacted their reason for seeking therapy in the first place.
My approach
I approach therapy with a person-centered and trauma-informed lens. I aim to foster a welcoming and healing environment by meeting my clients where they are. I cater my therapy modalities to fit my client’s needs as an equal partner in their healing journey.
My focus
I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, and adults with Complex PTSD in areas of domestic violence, childhood trauma, child abuse, sexual abuse, sex trafficking, sexual misbehaviors, racial trauma, LGTBQIA2S+, self harm and suicidal ideations.
My communication style
I believe therapy starts with developing a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients where they feel seen, heard, and understood. I hope to foster a safe, judgment free, welcoming, and healing environment where my clients feel empowered to be their authentic self. Working with me as your therapist can seem like two friends spending time together, where one just so happens to be a licensed professional in the field.
My journey to mental healthcare
I started my career as a social worker, because I was fed up with the social injustices and inequities of the world. I explored being a therapist after realizing that my influence as a social worker was limited to advocacy and case management. As a therapist, I have the privilege and honor to help clients heal from some of the most traumatic experiences of their life. As their therapist, I get to bear witness to the moments when clients feel seen, heard, and understood.
