More about Rachel Maki, LMSW

Hello and welcome to NY City Psychotherapy! I am Rachel Maki, LMSW. I became a therapist, because I am passionate about helping clients find healing. Life can be overwhelming at times and we often don’t know where to turn for support. Therapy provides a safe and understanding space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings and to begin to connect with your authentic self. From this place, we can work on making choices and taking actions that are more aligned with our true needs and desires. Anxiety can arise from current stressors we may be dealing with, and also as a result of past traumatic experiences. Anxiety can cause us to struggle to trust ourselves and the world around us. I work with clients to address their anxiety and begin to heal from traumatic experiences. I utilize a holistic approach with my clients and often incorporate strategies from somatic therapy and narrative therapy. This combination can help clients work on finding a sense of relief from physical symptoms of stress and pain as well as processing difficult emotions and memories related to trauma. I currently work with clients aged 16 and older residing in NY and FL.

Rachel is a warm, empathetic, competent, and a wonderful mentor. She helped me process my first year of grad school without judgement (and a lot of validation!). She brought in a variety of modalities and discussed her approaches at length. I especially appreciated her emphasis on the mind-body connection and creating/maintaining boundaries. I learned a lot from Rachel while benefiting directly from her approach to therapy.
