More about Rick Carter, LPC
Rick Carter is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. He earned his bachelor's degree from Towson University in Maryland and his master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. Rick has worked in a variety of treatment settings with children, families, and adults. These include inpatient hospital care for both adults and children, serving as director of adolescent residential treatment at Bethesda Hospital in Denver, and providing outpatient therapy for children, families, and adults at Kaiser Permanente for 13 years.
Rick's extensive experience has given him a unique perspective on helping others achieve their goals in treatment and lead happier lives. You will work together with the goal of resolving your issues using a combination of talk therapy and developing new coping skills through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). He believes that talking about your issues is very important, but combining this with effective skills and a treatment plan for solving your problems can create positive and lasting change in your life. Rick supports his clients in moving forward by helping them develop positive goals for change and an effective pathway to reach them.
Rick treats a wide range of issues and disorders for clients aged 13 years through adulthood. His expertise includes anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, behavioral problems with children, and parenting skills. Therapy begins with an evaluation and identifying initial treatment goals together.
During the first visit, you can expect to complete all necessary paperwork, discuss your concerns, and begin developing treatment goals to resolve or stabilize your problem areas. You will have goals and new coping skills to use between sessions, which will be reviewed in each following appointment. Initial goals set together will be modified or resolved as progress is made in treatment.
