More about Ryan Polka, LPCC
Early in college I was drawn to the counseling field and over the last ten years have worked with teens and adults on many painful experiences, including social anxiety, self-esteem, not fitting in, conflicts in parenting, and loneliness in romantic partnerships. I am consistently inspired and honored to be with people as they challenge themselves to understand and overcome blocks to healing, connection, and peace.
As I have worked with people and come to understand the many things that can get in the way of connecting with the people we love, I am especially drawn to relationship therapy. My passion for working with couples in consensual non-monogamous and monogamous relationships focuses on addressing fears of rejection, resolving trauma, eliminating old patterns of behavior that get in the way of intimacy, and building the skills to be present and participate in truly loving relationships. Much of the couple work I do involves navigating open relationships, building parenting and co-parenting skills, premarital counseling, healing from infidelity, learning and practicing effective communication skills, and amicable separation and divorce.
I have in interactive style and work with my clients to identify and understand their personal hurdles and find ways to overcome them so they can participate in satisfying and loving relationships with the people they love, including themselves. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Gottman Method Therapy in my collaboration with clients.
