My visit to Dr. Gaudino's PT was a pleasure as usual. Most people hate the idea of going for PT... not me... thanks to Dr. Gaudino and all of his staff, I look forward to the conversations, the laughs and (oh yeah) the exercise too.

More about Dr. Walter Gaudino, MD, PT

RALI is headed by Walter J Gaudino MD MSPT , a board certified Physiatrist with over 20 years of experience in patient care and Physician education. Our facility is ADA-compliant, with more than 1,800 square feet of treatment space and ample handicap parking available. This environment encourages people to obtain their maximum potential in a nurturing, safe and caring atmosphere. The emphasis of the practice is on the evaluation and non-surgical management of orthopedic medical conditions and neurologic rehabilitation. Most conditions will improve with monitored conservative care. A program of treatment using a combination of physical therapy, manual medicine, pain modalities, bracing, therapeutic exercises, medication and injections helps most of the time. The key to success is patient education, therapy, and a comprehensive management program. We have specialized programs for people who are dealing with the effects of Multiple Sclerosis, hemiplegia from strokes and the stiffness and weakness from Parkinson's Disease. Specific programs we have developed address the effects of Spasticity on patients recovering from strokes. Our Spasticity program works with our Motor Recovery program to decrease excessive tightness in affected muscles through the use of medications, nerve blocks and chemo denervation with Botox and Marcaine. Our Motor Recovery program utilizes traditional Physical therapy techniques and enhances movement in weakened limbs by using newer modalities such as Mirror Box therapy, Neuromove, FES and CPM to improve arm and leg function. Prior to entering any program your baseline function will be evaluated by the staff of R.A.L.I. to determine areas that need improvement. Each patient receives an individual assessment with tools that are specific to their problem. Balance Rehabilitation All activities are dependent upon intact balance. We can't sit, arise from a chair, stand or walk without an intact balance system. Balance is dependent on the proper functioning of the muscular, sensory, visual and vestibular systems. When these systems work together, we have a stable base of support on which movement can occur. People that do not have a stable base of support are not confident in their ability to sit, stand, reach or walk. They are afraid to move. This fear leads to their limiting physical activity and to further loss of muscle strength and flexibility, which worsens their balance further. Decline of the visual , vestibular , motor and sensory systems occur with aging. These systems can also deteriorate due to the effects of neurologic, orthopedic and medical illness. Patients with strokes, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and neuropathy have poor balance reactions due to muscular weakness, sensory deficits, or vestibular problems. Patients with orthopedic conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, and lumbar stenosis have impairment of sensation, strength, flexibility and pain. Patients with medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and COPD can develop muscular weakness and fatigue.
