Hi there, I'm Zachary!
Let's work on growing your life together. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, as well as many challenges life throws our way. Collaboration and empathy are incredibly important for achieving this work together.
My approach
I strive to create a welcoming and judgment-free space to help you achieve your mental health and wellness goals. I like to use humor to build rapport and get us acquainted. Therapy homework is part of my process, as it is important to develop and utilize new skills in real time, not just in session. I appreciate honest and transparent feedback and find therapy works best when difficult conversations about even the therapy itself aren't avoided.
My focus
I enjoy working with individuals 13 and older who are struggling to feel comfortable and confident in their lives. We will work together to build skills, achieve new perspectives, and get active in living. This includes exploring personal values and getting away from too many social comparisons.
My communication style
Direct but kind communication is key, and I try to ask permission before making an observation, sharing advice, or recommending something new. I prefer to speak in plain, everyday language.
My journey to mental healthcare
Originally, I wanted to be a creative writer and have a Kurt Vonnegut tattoo on my arm. This changed to anthropology in college; however, I realized I wanted to be more active than traditional research and academics. This led me to social work and counseling, a new road I've greatly enjoyed.
My goals for you
Sometimes, when starting a change process, we can get ahead of ourselves and crave the end goal before we've started. This often results in unrealistic and vague benchmarks. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to convince myself I could go from not exercising at all to walking a mile or more three times a week
