About Dr. Alka Mahajan

Dr. Alka Mahajan earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University, Boston, in 2004. Since then, she has worked as an Associate in a dental practice and become proficient in all fields of dentistry. Though skillful in all areas, she has a true passion for restorative and cosmetic dentistry. She uses the latest dental technology, such as digital X-rays and CariVu (an instrument that can detect decay without radiation). With her skills and gentle care, Dr. Mahajan is well liked and respected by both her staff members and patients.
Dr. Mahajan makes it her mission to provide caring and compassionate care to all patients from the start to the finish of their appointment. She always strives to go above and beyond for her patients and has even gone as far as driving a single elderly patient home when their ride was late. Dr. Mahajan always puts her patients first and will do whatever is needed to ensure they know this.
To keep herself updated with the latest dental technology and education, Dr. Mahajan frequently takes Continuing Education courses such as Implant Dentistry and Lumineers.
Even with a busy schedule, Dr. Mahajan balances her work and home life very well. She loves cooking and spending quality time with her family. She also volunteers at the Northern Virginia Dental Society clinic, showing her dedication and compassion for patients in dire need of dental help. Dr. Mahajan finds time from her busy schedule to participate in her children’s school activities.

I had a great experience. The office was clean and the staff was very helpful. They sent me an email with reminding me of my appointment and steps to speed up the process for new hire paperwork. It was very efficient and quick. Dr. Mahajan was very attentive and ensured I was not in pain through my procedure and worked quickly! Excellent service, especially with helping make my follow up appointment. I was very grateful for their accomodations with my need for an urgent appointment.

Went to visit for a dental cleaning and to check an issue - I was worried about it since it’s been a couple years since I’ve been to the dentist. She was really nice about and just told me what’s done is done, and how I need to move forward with some work I need done.

Both Christine (front desk) and Dr. Mahajan were so receptive, clear and kind. Doctor warned me of any pain or discomfort that I might experience and made sure to periodically check in.
I truly felt taken care of!! Highly highly recommend!!

Dr. herself was very polite and humble. but the staff was not. Noor kept on referring me as the 3rd person while talking to her other members and kept saying, " I can't take her" while they tried to obtain my insurance benefits summary. they can have the discussion, but at least do not do that in my face, and if so, please don't talk in a manner that I am not in front of you. I felt that very unpleasant and wanted to leave the facility.

Very underwhelming. Reading other reviews, I expected a lot. Instead I waited 45 minutes and got a consultation that felt a bit like a scolding. Her treatment plan was very aggressive, while I was looking for a more thoughtful approach.

Dr Mahajan is SO thorough, thoughtful and seems more proactive than other dentists I've had over the years. I appreciate that she does the cleaning herself and really takes her time during the appointment. I left feeling like I know everything that is going on with my teeth/dental health as well as what's potentially on the horizon either inevitably or if I don't commit to my night guard :) She's also a great patient advocate-- she ran/offered to run my insurance for a number of different things I potentially needed so I wouldn't have any surprises and could make informed decisions, which is above and beyond. And Christina is terrific, too!

Very direct and informative Dentist. As a patient, you must know all Dentists will make recommendations but you must ask why. She showed me my X-rays and showed me examples of why additional dental work was needed.

I chose her based on the reviews and I’m so glad I did! Her bedside manner is 10/10. Explains everything so well, is very knowledgeable, and seems really good at what she does. The staff was so nice and friendly. The receptionist asked me how my husband was doing, whom they had seen last week. My dental cleaning and X-ray visit took less than an hour! I was shocked. Dr. Mahajan is the one who cleaned my teeth which I wasn’t used to, but didn’t mind. She was easy to talk to and really seemed to care. I’m glad I chose her! The office building is outdated but didn’t matter.
