Dr. Hoa Tony Tran’s love and passion for dentistry began at a young age. Born in Southern California, his family moved to the Houston area in the early 80s, where they quickly put down deep roots. Dr. Tran grew up in the city of Pearland, where he graduated high school. As soon as he could, Dr. Tran began his career in dentistry at the age of 20 as a dental assistant. In 2006, Dr. Tran graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry. Dr. Tran was then privileged to enter dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Upon graduating in 2010 with his doctorate in dental surgery, Dr. Tran provided his hometown of Pearland with his expertise, love, and passion for dentistry, caring for thousands of patients who were once his neighbors, employers, teachers, family, and friends.
After years practicing in Pearland while maintaining his residence in the Houston Heights, Dr. Tran founded Discover Dental close to home and is now providing his brand of dentistry to his neighbors in the Heights. Dr. Tran spends his free time serving his community, traveling abroad, and seeking an adventurous life.
At Dr. Tran’s dentist office, he takes the time to understand each individual patient’s needs. Horrible dentist!! Would never go back. Gave me inlays after saying it would only require fitting. Charges way to much. Dr was rude and condescending. Minor dental work took the entire day. Dr cut my tongue with the tools multiple times. DO NOT GO HERE!!

The staff was friendly, but overall it was not a good experience. They had to take my x-rays twice because they lost the pictures in their system from the first time. I saw a total of 6 people throughout my visit which was a bit annoying because I had to repeatedly explain my situation. And I felt like they were pushing things on me that I didn't necessarily need. They recommended a deep clean, sealants, mouth guard, etc. and wouldn't budge on what they were pushing on me. I would not recommend.

Working with the doctor was great. They got my crown done as well as could be expected. However, the teeth cleaning was pointless. I did not feel any difference between when I arrived and she said she was done. I brought it to her attention and she got an attitude. She said if she missed something bring it to her attention. I was like at this point I just want to go. If you feel like you’ve completed the cleaning then I think you’re done. She stormed off. Ultimately, I don’t let people who are rude poke in my mouth with sharp instruments. I have to come back for my cap but I would not get any new services from them. One person shouldn’t reflect an entire business (everyone else was quite competent and nice) but I won’t be back after my crown.

All of the staff were kind and professional but they repeatedly tried to sell me an expensive cleaning procedure without sharing how it could be prevented / fixed with normal hygiene at home, i. e. flossing. This is likely a result of the Dr. Tran’s guidance so I don’t hold against any of the other staff.
It took 90 minutes to do x-rays and check my gums, even without a typical cleaning. I waited 10-15 minutes between hygienists (there were multiple for some reason).
They wouldn’t do a normal cleaning, e. g. remove plaque and buildup on my teeth, because I did not accept the treatment they were proposing. The reasoning was that it would be against procedure, but then a different hygienist came and tried to sell same the procedure. When I declined again, she said they could do the cleaning; the office’s messaging was inconsistent. At that point I had run out of time so I had leave.

This guy, and his practice, will try as hard as they can to up-charge you in a mercurial way. Tran has no shame in how much he will try to up-charge you. I went in for my annual “covered cleaning”, and he and his staff were pushing for a substantial up-charge for the same cleaning I received from the last dentist I went to (previously found on ZocDoc and am going back to). Stay away, is my opinionated advice.

The Dr.'s bedside manner was great being that I was nervous he & his staff were patient with me explained every step & made sure once my procedure was done I understood the Dr.'s instructions. Payment plan was broken down so I knew what was needed to be done next.
