James Choi, MD, DMD, FACS is a dual degreed, board certified, fellowship trained Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.

He has received numerous awards from eminent organizations - American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS), Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation (OMSF), Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF), National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) - and has published in many scientific journals regarding jaw surgery and facial reconstruction which were published in Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Craniomaxillofacial Trauma & Reconstruction. His most recent published research includes bone graft using stem cells in the oral & maxillofacial region, funded by Osteo Science Foundation.
Dr Choi holds Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) with honors at the University of Pennsylvania, an esteemed ivy league institution. Subsequently, he finished General Surgery Internship and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Penn Medicine/Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, followed by Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery at the University of Munich, Germany.
Dr Choi maintains privileges at Lenox Hill Hospital (Northwell Health) and NYU Langone Hospital as Attending Surgeon, taking facial trauma call for the community and teaching next generation of oral & maxillofacial surgeons.

The Best Experience I’ve Ever Had at a Doctor’s Office
I’ve had multiple experiences with different oral surgeons, and they were all stressful and traumatic. Walking into Dr. Choi’s office, I expected the same—but this was completely different.
From the consultation, Dr. Choi made sure I felt heard and reassured. He explains everything clearly and treats you like a person, not just another patient on the schedule.
On procedure day, I expected discomfort and stress—but I was shocked at how smooth and painless everything was. I walked out feeling relieved instead of traumatized, which has never happened before.
Then came the follow-up. His office checked in that evening—not just a generic reminder, but an actual check-in. That level of care is rare.

I booked a last minute appointment on the same day about a couple hours earlier for the extraction of one wisdom and one mola teeth. Dr. James Choi and his staff were quite welcoming, and they took great care of me. I highly recommend Dr Choi for all your dental surgical needs. Most of the swelling went away on the same day, and was able to chew on chicken breasts the following day. I recommend to not do too much talking though and take all the prescribed drugs accordingly.

Hands down, the most pleasant and professional office I have been to in NYC. The front desk was quite pleasant and helpful with the paperwork and insurance related questions. The assistants were very kind and made sure I was adequately seated on time and provided me with great care and comfort. Dr. Choi was amazing as his bedside manner helped me relax. His quick and painless work ensured me of his experience and outstanding skills. If you’re looking for an office you can trust with your wellbeing, this is the place to go!
