8/31/2018 I had my appt with Dr. Borna on August 18 at 12:05 p.m. I left the office at 3:40 pm and NOT because the work on my mouth took that long, but because I sat around waiting for hours tobe seen by Dr. Borna. I arrived 15 minutes ahead of time before my appt to fill out paperwork. The front office's receptionist, Judy, was nowhere to be found. Nearly an hour goes by before she emerged from the back room and asked if I had signed in. I finally got my paperwork and filled it out. I was told that since I was a new patient it would only be an examination today. That was fine and to be expected. I continued to wait and saw another patient come in after me. Dr. Borna took him to the back room. I was very confused. They were not there when I arrived and were seen before me. Either they were very late to their appointment or my appointment was pushed back. I was not informed that I was going to be seen later. By nearly 3 hours! Over an hour passed before Judy came to get me to take my x-rays. I asked about forwarding my x-rays to my mother who has worked in the dentistry field for over 30 years. Her response? They didn't have email because they were an "old school office". No problem, I had a physical address. She responded with "We don't.... DO that." Now, I understand that a dental office can charge you a reasonable fee for your records, but I was denied my records. Which is incredibly illegal to do. After my x-rays I waited over another hour. Judy came back in to tell me that they were supposed to close at 1:00 pm, but I would still be seen by Dr. Borna. She, on the other hand took off. By the time Dr. Borna showed up to where I was waiting it was roughly 2:30. 2 hours and 25 minutes past my appointment. I asked her about forwarding my records. She denied that to me as well. Again, that is illegal. I expressed my concern about my gums in the front and asked to be checked out for periodontal disease. My front teeth have nerves exposed and I'm in pain all the time. She took a glance and asked if I used a hard bristle brush and I said no as I use a very soft bristled brush. She then said, "Well, it looks like you already did the damage yourself. Your insurance won't cover it." There was no in-depth look to see if there was an underlying problem and my concern was brushed off. She said I could have them filled, but I'd have to pay out of pocket. I declined. I got no cleaning. Which was one of the main reasons for my visit. According to Dr. Borna, if I wanted any kind of cleaning I would have to pay out of pocket. Even for a basic cleaning. She told me my insurance did not cover me for ANY kind of cleaning. Which was confusing because general cleanings are very basic. I declined. For the record... as per my insurance here are 3 huge things I am covered for: PROPHYLAXIS, SCALING AND ROOT PLANING, PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE For anyone who may not understand what those 3 things are... they are cleanings. Very thorough cleanings of the teeth and gums. She brushed it off and ignored my concern about periodontal disease, which, if left untreated, can cause more problems such as having to have teeth removed. She asked me about my mother and upon finding out that I haven't been able to see her in awhile said, multiple times, "I can't believe you don't talk to your mother." Despite me stating that I called my mother almost everyday. I was told I had 8 cavities and she filled 9 teeth. She did not inform me she was filling 9 teeth. She filled my teeth with silver amalgam. The window on the front of her office said "white fillings" and did not give me the option to choose which filling I got (my insurance covers the white fillings). I spent the next 24 hours spitting up flakes from them. You should never EVER be spitting up flakes or bits from your fillings. That shows complete low quality of a dentist's work if you're spitting up anything post cavity work. None of the cavities were polished. They are rough, bumpy, and grainy. They are supposed to be smoothed so plaque/tartar can't get in there and lift the filling out. By her not smoothing my fillings she has put my teeth in further danger. They also don't fit my teeth. There are bumps that are throwing off my bite and I am unable to close my mouth correctly thanks to her "handy work". Overall I did not receive and was downright refused basic dental care that is covered by my insurance while lying to me about it. My x-rays were denied to me, I got shoddy fillings, and a complete disregard about my oral health. She did 45 minutes of work on my mouth and it took over 2 hours to just be seen by her and nearly 3 hours for her to even begin any kind of work after outright lying to me about what my insurance covers. I called my health insurance to request I see a different dentist to fix what she did. My health insurance has sent me a packet to report her to the board of dentists and if I have to I will take legal action.
